Jed Rant: Why seek Truth?

Below is re-post that might interest you...
Hi West:
Thank you for your post and welcome to the forum. You raise a
good question, why the heck would anyone want to demolish their
world for some intangible, weird, ill-defined, dreamlike guru
crap? Well, let's see what I can come up with. First more guru
crap.
While humans ask the question ''why'' a great deal, it almost
always yields nothing of importance. Usually it's Maya/ego
trying to trap someone into an argument and thus promote further
separation. In my experience, (I won't say ''fact'' however, it
is a ''fact'' to me) there is no cause. I agree that in the
physical world there are causes, the cue ball hits the eight
ball into the pocket and someone appears to win, but we are not
talking about the physical world, I'll call it the world of the
psyche.
Here's how it goes... a thought arises out of no-where, the
void. You don't know what your next thought will be because you
have ''flat-out'' no control over it whatsoever. It's just a
mystery.
After that thought arises an action/re-action takes place. It
may be a big or little action, or even a non-action. That too is
something you have no say over. Next the most amazing thing
happens.
In a fraction of a second your mind jumps in and says ''I
thought that'' or ''I did that''. It claims ownership of
something that has nothing to do with it. O.K. I'll ask a
rhetorical ''why''. The mind hates to be seen as unimportant and
it hates to be ''un-reasonable". If someone says I am being
unreasonable I say, ''only always''. I call B. S. on mind... it
is the biggest b. s. er in the universe.
BUT, that answer may or may not satisfy you, usually mind
doesn't like to hear that it's not important.
You tell me, why are you reading my books? Why are you even
writing on this forum, sharing some of your frustration? Why are
there books that are as much as five or six thousand years old
on the subject? Why are some people driven almost to the point
of madness seeking this Truth thing? Why do people give up
everything they have for it? WHY? WHY? WHY? ??? ??? ??? (stop
asking ''why'' Jed, you know better than that!)
Is this madness, just a bunch of wacky goof-off bliss ninnies
seeking relief from this sometimes frustrating and often
not-so-pretty existence. Probably some of it is... but, what
about the possibility that realizing you true nature... is a
sort of divinely inspired venture? (yeh, put up with my
cornyness for a moment)? What if it is why (again, sorry for the
use of that word) we are here, or at least appear to be here?
Could there be something in you, perhaps in your heart, a divine
spark if you will, that seeks to return to it's source, that
pushes the odd person to the edge of madness?
I can't come up with a reason why I did it, indeed, there isn't
even an I who could have done it. That too is party of the
mystery.
One last suggestion before I go ba ckto my massala chi and
butter naan, do not try to make sense of this because is does
not make any sense. It's a deep mystery and it is unsolvable,
but... you can know that It is. Just relax, breathe and do a
little more reading.
Love ya, Jed

His (or her?) original question was "why seek enlightenment?"
And enlightenment is the Disney version of Truth. People seek
enlightenment because they believe it is absolutely wonderful
and they, as a person, will be happy for the rest of their life.
Eventually they'll find out that isn't true and there's no such
thing as enlightenment. Bummer!
I didn't start out to find enlightenment, I started out to find
the truth of everything.
Why seek Truth then? Because the lies in this world are
unbearable and it's either Truth or die. Simple as that. Well, I
am talking about my case of course, I know nothing about anyone
else. I had no choice in the matter, I had to know Truth or die
in the process of finding it. Pretending everything is just fine
was no option.
Of course I found out that Truth isn't something to be found
here, so I -- or better said: The "I" I thought was me -- died
in the process. I realized Truth exists, but this here and now
ain't it and will never be it and Truth will never be found in
it. So I still don't know what Truth is, but fortunately there
is no "I" anymore who cares that much and what is left is happy
to know Truth exists.
Why seek Truth? I have no idea. It had no other choice but to
seek it and looking back I doubt I had any choice in the matter
at all.

Thank you Frits... and no one else has any choice in the matter
either, it is pursued or not pursued. No big deal.
Love ya, Jed.

I think the question actually comes up at a very young age. And
I think it is nothing more than luck of the draw.

Kinda lucky, there seems to be only one hit, and it tops the
list .. Anyway, enough of the small talk, I feel a bovine stupor
coming on ...
