Talking someone off the ledge prematurely

       Hi Jed,
I have a question regarding the place a person has to be in in
order to take the first step. Can someone who is relatively
happy in their ego-identified state, take the first step or do
they have to be in some serious turmoil?
I ask because I just started dating a girl recently, and one or
two times I just started spewing off about the dreamstate, no
self, etc. She was listening attentively and it seemed like I
almost dragged her off the ledge, but she soon talked herself
back to sleep. The thing is I didn’t feel like I did it with her
permission, and I’ve been hesitant to speak that freely since.
I know you mention that you wait for the little bastard to show
himself before giving him a light, so Im curious if you have any
insight/advice here. Is it “wrong” to point to this truth
without people asking to hear it? Is there a risk of taking
       someone off the ledge “prematurely”?

       Hi Chris:
Thank you for the good questions. I am wondering if you are
speaking about yourself or the person you are dating...?? What
is it that has you thinking it's your job to 'drag her off the
ledge'. I would like to suggest to you that it's not your job or
responsibility to drag anyone anywhere, other than perhaps
       dragging yourself off the ledge.
I have a rule that I don't talk about 'spiritual' things to
anyone, absolutely no one... other than my students. With them,
there is an expressed or implied invitation. Without a sincere
invitation, what other people are doing is none of your
business, especially when it comes to matters like we deal with
here. Sans an invite, I think it's rather to do that.
If this feels like a bit of a slap in the face, well... you are
probably right. But work on oneself is not about working on
others. Even when you realize your True Nature, you will, mostly
likely, also realize that in most cases it is better to just
keep your mouth shut, orr ask questions only.
Up to you of course, and thank you for reading through my little
       slap.
       Love ya, Jed

       Hi Jed,
This has been helpful, thanks for the reply.
Just to clarify, I am talking about the girl I'm dating, not
myself. I had an experience a couple weeks ago where we were
hanging out and she asked me what was on my mind. I started
talking about the type of stuff we talk about here, no-self, our
true nature, etc. She began to ask sincere questions and I
began to give sincere replies. Then she had a seemingly intense
and pensive moment where she said out loud to herself "what's
happening, am i not in control?" I watched closely, wondering
if she was about to have an insight that there was no turning
back from, but she soon took a hit of weed and returned to her
ego-identified state. I guess my question is, can anyone at any
time have these insights anout consciousness, ones that that
change the course of their life, or does one have to be in a
certain state, perhaps a desperate or despairing one, in order
to really have a profound insight that alters the course of
       their life.
Just for the record this is mainly to satisfy my curiosity and
perhaps give me some insight when to speak about these topics,
rather than help me on my own growth/development. If that's out
of place for this forum please let me know.
       Thanks as always,
       Chris

Well, not to be too prim and proper because I am not totally
innocent on that front, but they don't call it 'Smart' do they?
       Love ya, Jed.
