Did you find a body? Now we look for something else, time....
By: Jed McKenna Date: July 6, 2020, 9:58 am
---------------------------------------------------------
Dear Member:
I trust you have had a look for your body, and, if nothing else,
it loosened up a little of your attachment to it. Let's look at
time.
Have you noticed that to you (not your watch) time appears to
travel at different rates. Sitting in the dentist's waiting
room, anticipating a root canal, and time can appear to go a
little too quickly. How about something that you really enjoy,
maybe a special date with someone on the weekend, perhaps a new
car to be delivered at the end of the month... pick any event in
the future that you look forward to and the more you anticipate
it, the slower time appears to go. One of these that I noticed
as a child was the difference in time from going somewhere
interesting and returning home (Are we there yet daddy?).
We might check our watch or phone at times when we are looking
forward to some event. From that perspective we can relax into
the perception that time is a regular thing. All of our phones
and watches will agree with each other, but here is the rub. Who
built those devices? Who determined there was to be twenty four
hours and sixty minutes and seconds would be our standard?
Now a days, one might answer 'computers' but the watches were
originally designed by mankind, and even those computers where
designed by us. Once again, I want to project some doubt upon
what appears pretty obvious to most folks, do you believe a
devices, a man made device? Do you place those devices on a
higher pedestal than your own observations and experiences.
I am not knowledgeable enough in the science involved, so let's
keep it simple. Imagine for a moment that all time related
devices in the world stopped working. We would have the sun
going up and down... and that would give us a sufficient range
of time to wake up and go to sleep, but what would it be like
without any watches of any kind? Time passes quite differently
when you sleep than when you are awake... does it not?
Have you ever 'lost' time... experienced some kind of gap
whereby you wake up in a place and can't quite figure out how
you got there? Even the loss of a few second can be quite
interesting. Let's leave out our teenage drinking binges and
drugs of youth. They can alter a lot more than just time.
Time has taken on the importance and features that we have been
acculturated to. Could it be that we have absorbed such
teaching/training to the extent that we no longer question time?
How about letting time become our boss, becoming a subtle but
real stress inducer? Have you ever felt that?
I am not suggesting that I, or you, can time travel. But perhaps
time is not nearly as rigged as we take it to be. And perhaps,
just maybe, we time travel a great deal, while we sleep. Have a
look see... shake it up a little. The lighter you are the easier
it will be to fly.
Let me know your thoughts and stay healthy.
Love ya, Jed

My favorite “time” as a younger person was when camping. I
noticed that things just fell into a natural rhythm. I was
really quite amazed by it and I certainly enjoyed it. Now, as an
older person, I’m surprised at how fast the year carries on!
My body in some ways is hard to drop. In other ways not. More
doctor visits of various specialties, but much less concern
about physical “appearance.” Reading the Stephen King novel “The
Stand,” I was amazed he knew to put the “Praise Jesus” prayer on
the lips of his old, wise Black woman character when she had a
good BM.
I’m in Texas right now. When the sky turns a certain darker
shade (or lighter shade if it’s dawn), well, it’s “time” to feed
the catfish in the pond. The mosquitos like these “times” of day
too; they become more active, probably because warm-blooded
creatures tend to be more active in the early morning and late
afternoon “time” of day due to the extreme heat here of
summertime. Yum Yum time for mosquitos!
I hated, absolutely hated, getting up at 3:30AM to get ready to
go to work at the Methadone clinic which opened at 5AM. I had a
philosophy professor once for an 8AM class. He’d say,
“Philosophy should really not be discussed before 10AM.”

I sometimes have those gaps and find my self (on a bicycle) on
the other side of the town and don't remember the route my body
took. It occurs when my mind or consciousness is elswhere,
literally elsewhere. (and does it inhabit the body? why should
it? ).
I 'lost' maybe 15 minutes by the clock, but felt I had been
'away'- living a live elswhere- for longer than that,
Apparently the body takes care of itself and the traffic, it
doesn't need me. ( I do live in a bicylce friendly town).
I guess most of us get these gaps and lost parts of the road. To
me this shows I can leave things to the body and there's always
enough time, enough, like infinite. The infinite is always now.
Because sometimes less than half a minute is enough to turn a
life upside down irrevocably. At least that's my experience. The
minute seemed to last half an hour I remember, but lasted no
longer than the time it took to cross the road.

Yes, yes and YES!
I found time constraints to be very stressful. I spend few hours
debating with my friend/family about "Being late". In our
culture (I'm in Europe) be "on time", "do not late om meeting"
is very strong prerogative. You SHOULD be on time and You Should
not be late.
I suspect that most of car accidents happens because people are
hurry up to be "on time". Why?
I ask my friends - "Ok, You/I/They are late and what happens?
Did anybody suffer or anybody died because I'm late?"
If I will be a doctor and I will be saving lives - that's ok,
time in resuscitation may be crucial. But 99.99% of situation
being late has no negative issues.
That's why one day I decided to stop wearing watch (i used hand
watch for around 20 years (17-37 year old)) but I notice how
much stress gives me watch on the whrist.
I have watch build into console of my motorcycle. Once I hurry
up on motorcycle. I almost killed myself because I hurry up on
motorcycle to DON'T be late. So immediately I randomly deprogram
my motorcycle watch to display incorrect time so i do not watch
on it.
One more thing - I suspect that "time" concept is a imaginary
concept created for communication purpose (to explain others
some situation) but it does not exists in "reality". For me
concept of "time" is like number Pi (3.1415926) - it is human
created idea. You do not found Pi (or time) in the moment you
sitting on the lake shore and watch beautiful sunshine.
Cheers everyone!

Thanks for the email, Jed. I have read your trilogy plus the 4th
one about 5 years ago and still take them as the most
influential books I’ve ever read in my life. They truly burnt my
world w/o telling me how to rebuilt it.
I read basically all your incoming emails too in recent months
and fwd to others occasionally. I had thought about the time
query you raised in this email. I started pondering time
differences among different countries some time back. I realized
that time is just a number as it varies depending on where you
are currently located. And when I travel by plane, I lost some
hours on the way to the destiny then gain it back in my return
trip. That’s how I know time is not truth but man-made as you
said.
Another thought of mine is I wonder what time means to other
species or beings, e.g., a deer in a forest. Who cares what date
it was born and dies? Does the deer care about time in daily
life? If we human are just another kind of animal, to certain
extent, why time matters so much to us? Why we are taught that
time is one of the golden truth that all life events should be
planned accordingly? Time is just a set of figures. It carries
no meaning at all.
You asked us to develop our own thoughts and not to follow your
thoughts so I did. I thought about the falsehood of birth date
which is another set of figures and can be any number. I thought
about the boundary of each country is man-made, and what people
call the places which can literally be any names... etc.
I may not be a T/R before I die this life but I am not a
follower as you once guessed.
Thanks for reading, Jed.
With peace and joy,
Viv

I have felt for years that time has been speeding up. People
will say to me that's because I am getting older but it is not
that. Even my teenager remarks how quick time is passing lately.
To me it is like every year in the old days (about 30 years
ago), is about 7 or 8 months now. Of course, there are still 12
months to a year but that year is being squashed into a smaller
space. I am surprised more people don't comment on this.
Christmas was about three months ago but now it is July!
Terence Mckenna said that this phenomena was due to the pace of
change in the world and the inter-connectivity. He could be
right on that but it does suggest to me that time is not the
solid structure that we are all led to believe.

Time is like an anchor for the mind. It holds things in place,
organises, structures, schedules, gives a sense of moving from
and moving to and it give a sense of self. I find I am about 10%
successful as far as my mind's planning and scheduling of tasks.
I find it very stressful with the mind constantly organising and
measuring against time.
It seems lately I have lost my abilty to multi-task. The mind
loves multi-tasking but it has been ending in disaster for me.
In contrast when I slow down and just focus on the task at hand,
I get more done, without the mistakes and the sense of self
fades and 'doing' just happens. It's ironic when I am mindful of
the task, I lose the mind, the time orientated one.

The body clock gets set by the sun. Everything it needs to
function gets set by that signal from sunlight. Animals and
birds function this way whether they are diurnal or nocturnal.
Humans rely on clock time but clock time only exists in the
mind. It's just a thought.
If I paid no attention to thoughts on clock time, what would
happen ??? ???

Why not give it a try. And yes, I am absolutely certain that
time is speeding up.
