Is the ego creating the signs?

Hey Jed,
Im pretty sure you don't need an introduction but I'll do one
for my own sake I guess.
I read your two first books probably 8 years ago now, they were
given to me by a friend at a time when I had started to make
observations and asking questions about the sleeping zombies, as
I called them, etc. (I have no spiritual background, but I've
always felt "different", maybe an ego thing haha)
I stayed on the "path" for about a year and then allowed
"myself" to become distracted away from the path by falling in
love with a "perfect" partner.
Well aware at that time that he was a distraction, I decided
that I wanted to give that fairytale a chance, it felt like a
waste to deny myself that experience that I had created for
myself. It almost felt like a test to see if I actually wanted
to wake up, or did I just want a happy fairytale....
Well, the fairytale ended up almost choking me, it became
uninteresting and made me claustrophobic. It also didn't work
because I wasn't (or am not) free enough or asleep enough to
fully enjoy and make the most of it. And it turns out I can't
forget that this is all an illusion, the truth is haunting
me....
As soon as I broke out of that "perfect" relationship, I created
another perfect partner for myself (it took me 3 days, how
ridiculous). This time one that is much more challenging, and
forces me to take a closer look at my ego quite frequently and
harshly. I don't know if I'm fooling myself, but it seems like
it actually does make the ego, or maya, more visible.
At the same time, for the last couple years I have been seeing
"signs" and synchronicities everywhere, which of course makes me
wonder; is my ego creating these to "confirm" that I'm on the
right path, to keep me asleep while Im thinking that I'm
progressing, or is there actually such a thing as a
consciousness that tries to help me to wake up to myself? I am
fully aware that this sounds silly, I think I just need a proper
slap in the face... :D

Dear Julita:
Three days, sounds like some kind of a 'rebound record'...
Certainly not one I could match, or even want to match. I need
to breathe. Forget about the synchronicity thing. If you are
thinking of buying a Ford, you will see the streets become full
of them. Not really, of course, it's about what you are focusing
on, and in my experience it's just entertainment and mainly a
detraction from the real task at hand.
Now get your (fill in the blank) out of your (fill in another
blank) and get on with the job. Consider yourself lovingly
slapped...

I like to breathe but I also like the company and the cuddles
feel good too. THis one likes to breathe too so it's working
well so far :)
Ok, so no synchronicities because the brain sees what it seeks,
I get it.
But I assume that I, whoever the "I" is, am creating this every
single day, and so I can make things pop up in my dream as I go?
For example, I am quite new in this city and looking for someone
to distract myself from myself sometimes, let's call them
friends :) I like being alone a lot, but I also like doing stuff
with others.
I talk to the universe a lot when I want to create something,
and the other day I said, "Im gonna need some people in my life
that I enjoy spending time with, and have something interesting
to talk about with" (which is rare these days unfortunately)
The same day I had two different people connecting me with
people who seem to be in "my field" of interest - that has to be
something that I created, or am I being delusional? It does feel
a lot like Im creating more and more consciously - or is this
also an illusion..? :D
