Jed rant on orchids and T/R and...
   DIR By: Jed McKenna

       ---------------------------------------------------------
       Dear Members:
It's blah, blah, blah, blah..... all the way down.
I'll tell you what I do sometimes for a little fun. I say, after
a little rapport is established with someone, 'I've found that
everyone I've ever met has something that they are really good
at, something they love, maybe a hobby, a job or a study of some
kind. I'm curious, what is it for you?' I'm pretending I don't
already know. Three quarters of time I have already ascertained
a pretty good idea of what it is through various clues.
You need to like the person and be reasonably sincere. Then I
say something like, 'Got it, you like growing orchids. So, let's
play with this for a moment. I want you to teach me the most
important thing about growing orchids, the absolute key, and I
am going to give you five minutes'. Just play with me here. You
are the expert and I am the student. I look at my watch and make
       a serious face. Start now!
The more 'enlightened' ones have a simple answer, 'Well, it's
really quite simple, you just gotta love it'. Others will talk
about soil, sun and water, etc.
I learn interesting things about a wide variety of subjects and
I enjoy that. It's my thing... just my sandbox. I've never found
anyone that didn't want to talk about their love. I watch and
learn and am very, very selfish about it. There is an important
exchange of course. I give them something that few folks will
ever do. I give them the attention of God (not being
       egotistical, just a metaphor here).
My mind is absolutely still and blank, awaiting to be filled by
the most interesting thing about this person. I have come up
with some pretty wild material and, should I desire it, I can
carry on a conversation on a wide variety of subjects.
Consider this, without my confider knowing who I am and without
broaching spiritual topics and philosophy (i.e., not setting a
stage for them), how many do you think have said something like,
'Well, interesting question, you know I just really want to find
out what life is all about, who I am and what I am doing here,
I'm a little embarrassed to tell you, and I don't think I have
made much headway, but that's what really grabs me.'
Over the past 25 or so years, I can count them on one hand. This
is one reason that real T/R is so rare. I have been around the
world and in my travels visited a number of temples and holy
sites, some pretty rare and unusual. I don't want anything from
them, but they are fun to go and see. I have viewed thousands of
people offering prayers and incense, etc. I don't have a handle
on all their languages, but I'll bet there were very, very few
offering a simple thank you to their deity. They were asking,
asking, asking.. for money, love, hope, a new car, a new house,
       blah, blah, blah.
If there is a Ganesh, Shiva, Buddha, Christ or whomever, I'll
bet they grow sick and tired of it all. I certainly would.
Punchline, do you want peace? Think about it, is it what you
really want? I'm not saying you should want it, it's all up to
you, but do you want the 'Peace that passes all understanding'?
Maybe yes, maybe no. But, I can assure you that it will never
bless you until you appreciate your blessing. Christ, I'm
beginning to sound like a preacher, well, if the robes fit....
Asking, asking, asking, wanting, wanting, wanting, needing,
needing, this should be, that should be, this shouldn't be, that
shouldn't be... geez, no one could every be peaceful under that
barrage of desire, which Buddha point out succinctly.
I am sitting at my desk right now, in front of me is my
biodegradable bamboo computer with speakers made from recycled
coke cans. My seat is an old stump I found in a garage sale,
helps my posture, and for a pen I use a seagull feather. I make
my own ink by scraping of the soot from my kerosene lantern
chimney and mix is with elephant saliva from the herd in my back
yard. Just to save on power I have three lovely Asian ladies
that fan me. I don't like slave labor so they take shifts and I
pay them well. Much more pleasant than air con. I like the
off-the-grid thing. Simple lifestyle, but I really do appreciate
it. But WHAT ABOUT YOU? (P.S. coconut internet is a little slow
       sometimes). I need absolutely nothing.
Are you always asking for something? Have you ever stopped, and
I mean REALLY STOPPED and just looked around you and thought...
maybe... this is all of my own making? Everything here in my
world is a mini-miracle. Am I in it or is it in me? And me,
ungrateful bastard that I am, only want more of this and more of
that... and, oh yeh, I really want that enlightenment thingy
cause it will relieve all my pain and suffering and I will be in
bliss all the time and blah, blah, blah....
How much of your time is devoted to wanting? I ask that you
seriously consider it. Is this adventure called life just
drifting by without you noticing it. It's nothing short of f-ing
incredible and yet, I don't think many folks give it the credit
       it deserves.
Is this ranting about enlightenment, yes and no. It's mostly
about what hides it from you view/experience/having. 'Wanting'
is affirming lacking and that just mean 'ain't go it'.
So, tell me, what is really special to you, and DON'T b.s. me.
If it's not enlightenment, that's fine because it doesn't really
matter, to me. Please don't tell me about orchids, I know enough
about them already. Your primary love may well lead you to T/R
in a sneaky way. I encourage you to pursue whatever turns you
on, not what you think should turn you on.
Now Jed, stop with the lecturing and do something worthwhile.
The elephants are wrecking the neighbor's grow-up. They just
       love that s h i t.
       love ya, Jed.
       Love ya, Jed.

I can honestly say that I don't know what my primary love is.
I could name a million little things I love... Good books,
movies, music, food. Sitting by myself in public places and
watching other people go about their lives like ants, going for
long drives in unfamiliar places, sitting by the beach, going
out for a good meal, playing video games, watching my team play,
looking at amazing photography of nature or abandoned
buildings... I could never be bored. There couldn't be enough
lifetimes to fill with all the things I'd love to do, but I
couldn't tell you what my primary love is.

I used to really really love music, photography, going out,
being a bit drunk and just wandering around, but that has
slowly vanished, not completely by me , but by my life (choice
made not by me but for me as you say...).
I used to really really love this girl....
I still love all those things, but now there is a BUT, but i
       cant figure out the but...
WHAT IS THE JOKE? How can it all just vanish?
Now im prolly really just enjoying everything but am ashamed to
be so silly. No struggle, no achievement, no effort>>> its
       inhuman in some way.
Its like i love automatically anything that is put in front of
me, its just that some thing get in front of me more often, like
       in a pattern.

What am I thinking about this? Guess it's time to reveal my true
       non-identity to all..
       I am a pirate!
Not a wooden legged wannabe pirate no, for I can't count or tell
how many exist. My treasure is this dream, this Universe. All
that is, search whatever you like, my treasure is already yours.
There is no map for it is not burried beneath this earth. I have
no wanting for something cause I can't put a value on anything,
the ego enjoys making poop more impressive than it actually is.
My precious shít would definitely be...
Parrot: Biscuits! Lots and lots of biscuits!
Me: Rum! lots and lots of rum!
       Parrot: With biscuits!
       Me: Add some French cheese!
       Parrot: Add more biscuits!
Me: An Italian midget butler, God I love tiny people! (Fck u
       Smurfs! Blue is so outdated.)
       Parrot: Tiny biscuits! Tiny biscuits!
Me: Groovy dance music! Thor will spice up heavy metal lighting
soundeffect starts at 9:04pm. Snowwhite is sceduled this morning
at 6:30am (guess of the early birds ::)). After the huntsman
gets rid of her act we leave the stage open for Mother Natures
latest album release: It's raining tacos. This party is going
wild Mr.Parrot! Have a biscuit matey.
       Parrot: With rum! With rum!
Love to fool around, why so serious about anything that isn't
true? Still being in the game is what I truly love.
       Love you,
       Stephan

What I really want is to write and write, and the subject is not
really important, might be the life of bees or politics in my
country or potatoes, my children whatever. It’s all the same
really. While writing I go out of my mind and some sort of
humor, lightness, knowledge is given space to explore,
challenge, undermine, love. There’s a flow or energy in it which
has me on my knees with gratefulness, enjoyment.
yea, it's real special, but it hasn't got much to do with me. (
i'm not saying anything about the 'fight' or surrender needed to
       get to this place )

I love rock climbing! I love the feel and texture of the rock
under my fingertips, love looking at the shapes and occasionally
perfect Euclidean formations! I love the dance upwards, the
flowing through the holds! I love the times when I can't tell
where I end and the rock begins and how on certain technically
difficult moves I feel like I am attached to the rock purely by
mental willpower which transcends the physicality! I love the
adrenaline rush of turning a corner on small holds with my butt
hanging out over hundreds of feet of air! (The technical term is
'pucker factor'😜) I love being in places that very few
other people will ever be, and I love the views I get there, all
the more so because I feel I've earned them! I love the laser
like focus that I get while climbing, and how the whole rest of
the world just disappears! I loves the places climbing has taken
me, and the connectedness and shared intentions of climbing with
a good partner! I love the indifference of rock, and I love
connecting its imperfections into a route I can scale! And I
love the feeling at the end of a day of climbing that I did
something really fun and cool and interesting, however
meaningless and pointless it may been.
