What does all this have to do with T/R?
   DIR By: Jed McKenna

       ---------------------------------------------------------
       Dear Forum Member:
The short answer is 'everything'. Absolutely everything that
happens can be your window for wisdom, understanding and T/R....
but, only if you take to be such. For Byron Katie it appeared
to be cockroach walking across her foot. For Satyam Nadeen it
was something like three years in the lockup for his ecstacy
factory in Costa Rica. Tolle spend months drunk on a park bench.
Nisagardatta had that special guru. The truth is but that it
could have been absolutely anything else that arose.
When you have yet to experience it, it's quite easy to think
that specific actions and events have to take place for T/R to
arise. Things have to be just so for it to occur. When it does
arise, you know the reality that it was never not there and
absolutely everything you did in the dream, angelic or horrid,
was a doorway... and everything that appeared to be done to you
was equally a doorway... you just didn't treat it was such, and
       perhaps missed the opportunity.
I suggest you move slower, breath deeper and every day spend at
least a few moments in the 'OMG' state of awe at everything that
occurs in those few moments. When you say it has to be this way
or that way, or come from this great teacher or that great
teacher, you miss the whole point. It's coming from everywhere
it is everywhere and it is all there is. Try to limit it, box it
into your expectations and limitations and you won't realize
it. And, yes, sometimes it is a shock event, a surprise or the
like, that momentarily removes those limitations, but those
limitations are your creation... and you can remove them
yourself. Or, even go farther and realize that they are
artificial constructs that don't exist. You can't bundle up a
pile of limitations and present them to someone, but they are
capable of bundling you up in a fearful numbness and thus a
wasted human dream (not really wasted, just massive missed
opportunities to find your True Nature).
Much love to your and yours. Eyes wide open, no fear.
       Jed.

Not only must it come from a wise and holy guru, but that guru
must act as a guru at ALL times! NO exceptions! NO singing
       children! :( :( >:(

       Dear Jed,
Thank you for this precious insider's tip. I've read too many
Zen stories and hoped for a special moment when I burst into
enlightenment. That hope is in the back of my mind and affects
me unknowingly but profoundly. I am glad that bubble is burst.

       Jed,
       Just curious about 2 things:
       1) I don't recall your ever sharing your awakening experience in
your books. Care to share now?
       2) I recall that somewhere in your books that a very small
number of people on the planet are "done." Was it as few as 5 or
so? You mention Katie and Tolle here -- are they in your
estimation "done"? If they are not, is there some state
somewhere between Human Adulthood and T/R?

       Hi A:
Good question because there is a subtle but very real trap in
sharing such things. One issue is that for a considerable amount
of the non-experience, there was no I there to remember, and the
other, more important point, is that when teachers share their
T/R or T/R ish experiences, they set up a student with specific
expectations.. and the student then forms a mental image of how
it should arise/appear to them... WHICH IS ALWAYS WRONG! It
arises however it arises to you and will have very unique
       qualities for you.
You cannot imagine what it will be like, and thinking it will be
this way or that, while it appears to be quite innocent, is more
than sufficient to block it. I believe that Nis and UGK had
genuine lasting experiences although they present them in quite
different contexts and with different stories. When you walk
back the Nis experience, you will find the end point is
identical to UGK, at least that's what I found. They didn't take
the same route, but ended up at the same destination. And their
experience of it was share through their own unique filters.
There are many states between H/A and T/R, but the final T/R can
definitely not be styled as an 'experience'. It's is way beyond
       that. Unimaginable and inevitable.
Remember the story by Watts about there being two types of post
T/R behaviors, which is my observations on the subject. One is
that the recipient (for lack of a better word) goes off and is
never heard from again (and I can tell you that was tempting)
the other one is the recipient returns to the world, usually
teaches and lives out a more or less human existence.
One more observation... when you might think that a 'guru'
should or shouldn't behave a certain way, that is a poor way to
evaluate them. You have no idea what is going on within.
Behavior means a different thing to everyone and pretty much
nothing to one who is T/R. I am not prepared to evaluate other
teachers with a few exceptions, i.e., Nis, Ramana and UGK are
the go-to-guys in my opinion. But you don't know if it is your
neighbor, your plumber or your barber. Virtually all my adulte
life, when I see a teacher all robed out in saffron or gold,
long white beard speaking with thousands and thousands of
devotees in a well practiced Indian accent as the lap it up...
well I must have been programmed in some way... I turn in the
opposite direction and run. No rational for that, just what this
       body does.
And, you know what... as I write that ;) ;) ;) perhaps
listening to your body is an excellent way to discern... many
       things.  ::) ::) ::)
Remember this, it is very important, you DON'T want the symptoms
of T/R, you want the disease. DO NOT think that behaving like a
       goody-two-shoes-bliss-ninny-granola-bar-earth-cookie is going to
make T/R arising within you. Acting does not make it real... it
just creates more acting. Illusion begets illusion. I suggest
leaving that to Hollywood and governments.
       Love ya, and stay healthy.
       Jed.

Thanks for clarifying. One of the many reasons your books
resonate with me is that you remain "invisible." We don't know
what you look like, you don't have any of the cultish trappings
around you as far as I can tell, etc. You did reveal in the last
book that you grew up near the LI Sound, and where you live now
has been disclosed, but that's about it. I think somewhere
you've alluded to some sort of trauma, but that could be
       anything.
It's so easy to fall into the trap: I want to be like
Jed/Tolle/Katie/Nis, etc. Totally get that. Totally respect your
stance, even if I can't REALLY know the Big Picture in my
       non-T/R state!
OTOH, stories CAN help me, at least, to make what I might call
"progress." You often write about films as illustrative teaching
tools. One story I find endlessly fascinating is that Joseph
Campbell met J. Krishnamurti in his early 20s on an ocean liner
that was returning from Europe. This seemingly incredibly random
event got Campbell fascinated by eastern spiritual thought and
led to his work on the Hero's Journey. This happening
(admittedly in Maya) profoundly influenced the film industry,
particularly the sorts of films that you've written about, I'd
       venture to say.
In another multiverse "reality," Campbell and JK don't meet, and
things go in a different direction. Ultimately, everything ends
in the same place, but it seems the journeys have an infinite
       amount of twists and turns.
