I’m stuck.
I have accepted that I can’t prove anything except that I exist.
But that doesn’t prove that nothing exists except I
am/Consciousness. Absence of proof is not proof of absence. You
say that Truth is self-verifiable, but I can’t verify anything
except that I exist, including anything one way or the other
about the validity of the belief in my existence as a human
being on planet Earth. You say no beliefs are true, but the
truth or falsity of that statement cannot be proved. So how do I
move on?

Give up, stop trying, lay down your weapons and tools, relax and
breathe. Oh, and forget anticipating something else, this just
might be it for now. And, how to you know you exist? Using an
illusionary self to determine such an important point is like
complaining to a pimp that there is a brothel down the street.

Dear AI:
No crosstalk is permited, i.e., don't post on another member's
thread. You have you own thread and must stick to it. In
addition, DO NOT advise other as to what to do, be, think, etc.
What others do is none of your business, it's their business and
I continually suggest that folks keep that in mind. I'm sure you
have good intentions, but intentions don't count here. Doing
counts, now I suggest you work on you... and only you.

There is awareness here. This doesn’t require verification. What
that awareness consists of or encompasses, or does not
encompass, is what needs verification, which it is impossible
to provide. Clearly the roles of father, husband, employee,
friend, etc, are made up and the taking on of social constructs.
But the experience that ‘I’ am breathing, that ‘my’ left foot
hurts, these seem impossible to deny. I believe you, and David
Carse, and Byron Katie, when you say there is nobody home, that
no self is true self, but I have no idea how to turn that belief
into a knowing.

Thanks for that Notdan.
There is only one thing you can do, but there are hundreds of
different ways/techniques/approaches. You are always questioning
in some way. Some folks hammer down on one technique, (like my
unnamed student who didn't speak for something over two years,
bless her heart) and other's who jump around like there pants
were on fire (who me?). You might study in some manner for a few
weeks and not gain anything, then a year later do exactly the
same thing and bingo-bango :P :P :P you wonder how the heck you
missed THAT!
At the core of every technique is some kind of question. You
will encounter many approaches, some simple, some complex, some
wise, some... well, I was going to say ''stupid'' but that's not
correct. Any question can bring you to the end if you are
willing and ready to go to the end. Not as simple as it sounds.
So, the present ''enlightenment'' question, as being presented
by the media, and which will take you all the way, is the
Impeachment Hearing.
Depending upon your b.s. tolerance level, you can, in the right
frame of mind, just turn on the T.V. or Youtube, find said
hearing and ask yourself ''What is going on here'' or in the
alternative, '''What the F is going on here''. Within the right
mind and experience set, it can be as enlightening as listening
to Nisargadatta... perhaps not as pleasant, but remember, we are
NOT looking for ''pleasant'', only ''effective''.
The answer is never out there, because there is no out there out
there. When some salacious, lying politician puts two words
together ''I am (not guilty) of blah, blah...'' don't think his
''I am'' and Nis's ''I am'' are different. They are not. I agree
that the tone, accent, context, surrounding, etc. may be very
different, but that ''I am'' is always the same. You CANNOT
escape it. Be it a poor Indian in his loft or The Don, in his
(for the present moment) White house... understand, there is no
difference at the core... nothing is different from anything
else, regardless of how it might appear. We only pretend (and we
pretend very well) that there are differences in order to keep
the game interesting.
Now, back to your work, it matters not what it is, just do it!
And never, ever think you can get the answer. The answer will
get you!

Sounds like you are saying ‘pick a thread, any thread, and start
pulling, and the whole thing will unravel.’ Which is great
advice, except for the fact that it feels like I’m looking at
nothing but unraveled threads already. It’s a big messy pile,
but I didn’t unravel any of it. I’ve watched you,and Ramesh, and
Wei Wu Wei, and a few others with real knives, rip this ugly
carpet to shreds. And I’ve developed a more effective bullshit
detector so I don’t waste much time with the pretenders. But I
was just an observer so all I’m left with is growing discontent.
I guess what I can do is to start with the beliefs you folks
have inculcated. Just look at the implications of, for example,
all I ams being the same I am. Maybe that will lead from
believing to knowingThanks

Sure, you can try some beliefs on for size, nothing wrong with
that, but don't ever let them go dark, beneath the covers,
always be aware that they are made up and you are responsible.
Never fear throwing a belief out... never fear it.
