Jed Rant: Something true on T.V.

If I caught your attention by that header, well... it's not
click bait. I have watched movies and T.V. series at the rate of
about one a year. Here is one I highly recommend, many levels,
the subject you will find most interesting, great sets and
shots, actors are exceptional and there are many hidden truths
in the script... at least in my experience and observations.
Much to be learned. Two seasons, HBO, first season is must see,
second still good. Love to hear your thoughts... AMERICAN GODS.
Love ya, Jed.
P.S. What gods have you created?

I tried watching American Gods once but was not able to even
finish the 1st episode. Somehow it was too offensive (scary?) to
me (my programming?) yet I’ve been able to watch many other
‘dark’ or ‘irreverant’ shows.
I thought Catch 22 was meaningful and salient (on Hulu). Six
episodes. Best thing in the existential genre that I’ve seen in
quite some time.

Well, if you couldn't get through the first episode... you won't
like the rest. It doesn't pull any punches.
Love ya, Jed.

Mistaken. The show I didn’t like was Midnight, Texas, NOT
American Gods. I was confused, not unusual these days. I might
like American Gods. Will take a look and get back to you.

Phew... I get a second chance at acceptance, thank God. While on
the subject of ''Him'' (or more likely ''Her'') the show (I
don't recall how far into it) reveals how Gods are created. I
found it fascinating and revealing. If you watch closely, it
explains much of human's more esoteric behavior. I look forward
to your feedback. You are going to have to put up with a little
gratuitous sex, but I would guess ''Marketing'' (a branch of
''Media") has some say in that. Those words will mean more as
you more through the series. I watched the first four episodes
in one evening.
Love ya, Jed.

Watched season 1 at the release and liked it. Got through the
whole season in two or three days but havent watched season 2
yet.
I would lie if there was some sort of "deeper understanding"
while watching it, but there was always a sense of...more behind
the scenes. Like there are hints or intimations beneath the
obvious acting.
There are too many scenes through the whole season which are
kinda "different", which make them more interessting and
mysterious. Always felt that its not really about whats seen
obviously but more whats behind it.
Would you advise to watch season 1 again with more attention?

Hi Bjoern:
Thanks for your thoughtful observations. I would indeed suggest
you watch Season 01 again, just to find out what you may have
overlooked. There is much going on that is pretty subtle.
Feedback welcome.
Love ya, Jed

I remember watching the first episode a couple years ago and I
liked it. I can't remember why I stopped watching....probably
just got distracted and started another series...which I didn't
finish lol. Gods' irreverent/edgy tongue-in-cheek tone with
Gaiman's signature style...very much my cup of tea. I'll pick
it back up again, good tip :)
lol I wonder what a similar series composed of interacting
incarnations of the various gods associated with entheogens
would look like. DMT, ayahuasca, iboga, datura,
psilocybin..............salvia divinorum ;) . I can hear the
critics "visually arresting but ultimately disjointed and
nearly incomprehensible" :D

From see to see, smiling abroad :D
Man.....this show is goooood!! Everything is pitch perfect.
The subtleties....well, I confess they are lost on me. But,
this buzzing layered feeling implies that they are there....even
if I don't have the sophistication/attention span to bring them
to the surface to talk about intelligently.
One thing that does filter through very clearly. The burgeoning
representation of the feeling inherent in the notion of
"infinite games". Once foundation of the empty center has been
arrived upon and stabilized....then the option of dreaming upon
dreaming worlds emerges. Like a fractal, spiral array of open
doors twirling around a cylindrical clear, dark, and empty
hallway.
First things first, though....
Until then, quote of the day
"...sudden onset of strange. Fair cause for consternation
unless strange is a new language, and what we're doing here
is......vocabulary building" Mr Wednesday
