My interaction with a student visiting here... our morning
coffee talk
DIR By: Jed McKenna

Student: Everything just happened, right? Help me with that.
Me: In a sense, yes, however the deeper truth is everything only
appears to happen. Look at all the stuff that happens in a night
dream and upon awakening you realize it only appeared to happen.
Student: So, if it’s a dream then it doesn't really matter what
''appeared'' to happen.
Me: That's my experience, but I would like you to get your
experience of this human dream. I suggest you stop taking things
seriously, break it apart... play a little more with it.
Student: How do you know it's a dream?
Me: It's not that difficult. Ask yourself where yesterday is.
What do you come up with? Is yesterday not just a memory to you,
perhaps as faint as last night's dream? No matter how slight the
difference, your memory of yesterday is going to be different
than everyone else's. Would the real ''yesterday'' please stand
up. Impossible… because, like a dream, everyone's night dreams
are different than everyone else's. They only appear to come and
appear to go.
Student: Then nothing matters, nothing ever really matters?
Me: Yup, nothing matters. But you bring up an ''important''
matter. You, not the little you who is the dreamt character but
the big you who is the dreamer, placed a mechanism in the dream
that creates the appearance of a material world and all its
apparent tangible and intangible components. Human you has a
very strong dream tendency to attach importances to virtually
everything. Certainly some importances are sizable (very
important) but, everything that arises to you has at least some
minor sliver of importance. Humans have been referred to as
''meaning making machines'' and this ''meaning making'' is
synonymous with importances and can be reduced to making things
''matter''.
Student: Well, that plant on the sidewalk doesn't matter to me
but I still see it.
Me: I understand that but it's just a conclusion you are making
without a deeper understanding. In order for that plant to
appear to you, to arise in your experience (that of the dreamt
character) you work in a kind of coordinate effort with the
dreaming you. One of the ''Rules of the Human Game'' is that
nothing will arise to you (things, feelings, events, etc.)
unless they matter to you. By making something matter, you
create matter. It's very matter of fact. Now, the corollary of
that game agreement is that if something truly doesn't matter to
you.. guess what.. it won't arise in your experience. However,
when you have spent a life time making things matter, doing the
opposite has its challenges. You might be thinking that I am
hallucinating this ''no matter makes no matter'' matter, and I
am going to hit the ball back in your court because, in my
experience, you are the one who is hallucinating and you are
doing a damn fine job of it. You have hallucinated everything by
making nothing matter, making something out of nothing (please
re-read that).
Student: Well, I'm going to have to work on that one… but isn't
there a tree, of sorts, there for everyone. I grant you that
each person's tree will vary a little… but… if someone walks
into that tree they are going to bump into something, aren't
they?
Me: Yes, they will appear to and that is a necessary element of
the dream. You see, there are billions of dreamt characters,
BUT, only one dreamer. Hence there are many similarities, not
identical experiences, but similar, between each dreamt
character's experiences in order to keep the dreamers from
realizing the nature of this dream. Similarities in the illusion
result from there being only one dreamer. In a lucid dream,
realizing you are in a night dream usually leads to promptly
awakening from that dream… you tell me, where do all those
apparently solid elements of the dream go after awakening? I
would suggest they were only in your imagination and not truly
real… and furthermore, I suggest that you can experience that
across the spectrum of your human dreamt character's experience.
Nothing is real but we make it real by making it matter. When
you grasp my words you might come to the realization that you
will never be deader than you are right now. Permit me to
squeeze another point in. What humans refer to as dying is not
dying at all… it is waking up as the dreamer. Your apparent
death will be the most interesting and wondrous moment in your
non-existent life.
Student: I gotta ask you ''why?''. It seems like the dreamer has
set up an unimaginably complicated situation.
Me: Oh yes, and you don't know half of it. Not even half, you
don't know one millionth of it. Perhaps I know two millionths.
But that doesn't matter either.
Student: Yeh, but why make up such a game?
Me: Your human mind, as it is being dreamed in this moment,
wants something that attaches importances and make things
matter… think about this. They reason you want an answer to why
is because of a deep need to make the whole thing importance.
Isn't that why we ask ''why''. An answer is made up and then we
thin we ''know'' something, we thing we have nailed it down. We
never nail anything down, we only continue endlessly attaching
importances/meaning. But, if you really need an answer to
''why?'' then use ''entertainment''. Let me ask you a question.
Have you notice that night dreams always seem to have one or
more goals. Sometimes pretty strange, but a dream has a
doingness to it. If there is nothing to do, there is no dream
story line, AND, if you find out there is nothing to do as the
dreamt character in the human dream, something similar will
happen to the dreamt human. The dream stops. The dreamt
character realize the game and poof, it's power over you
evaporates. If you have nothing to do… you wake up. You might
sense this experience approaching you through by observing an
attitude change taking place in you day-to-day experience. You
will respond to more and more things with a shrug and ''I don't
know'', sometimes followed by a thought like, ''Gee, that use to
really bother me, and now I just don't seem to care about it…
hmmm..''. Not caring about ''stuff'' has nothing to do with
becoming an ''uncaring'' person, quite the opposite. You narrow
your caring down to what really matters and gradually reduce
your caring about brain rubbish and monkey mind thoughts.
Perhaps you will eventually realize that nothing at all matters.
Student: I need a chocolate brownie frappe' so help me stop
caring.
Me: Excellent… more later.

That is exactly correct, you don't know. Nobody know anything,
period. You might learn about something, but knowing is totally
different. You will only know something when you realize that
you are it... Truth comes to mind.

Is this principle (law?) something that can be used in
manifesting?

It's certainly a facet but only one of a number of things that
are involved in consciously manifesting. You are unconsciously
manifesting this current universe... that is sufficient.
Cheers.

What's the difference between something only appearing to
happen, and something happening?

Challenging question Floris. From my experience, Truth is the
only thing that is real. Everything else is of the human dream.
Your sense will argue otherwise. If you stub your toe it will
appear to hurt, granted. That too is an appearance. Have you
even had an experience in a dream where you sensed, saw, felt or
hear something... and at the time in the dream context it felt
quite real? Where did that experience go when you woke up. Did
you not realize that it was just an illusion, a dream. The
parallels between the night dream and human dream are very
similar. In the human dream you will experience sensory input
and take it to be real. Once you awaken to the human dream the
''sting'' will be taken out of all human experience. This was
also how Nis expressed his pain when dying... answering ''Yes,
there is great pain, but no one here to experience it''. Sense
are a very power and effective way of keeping humans in this
dream. The PTB (powers that be) cannot afford to have a
significant number of humans awaken. That would be a catastrophe
to the controllers.
Love ya, Jed.

Thanks Jed,
Still not quite getting it. I don't get the distinction you make
between real, and not real. A dream seems just as real to me as
other experience. A thought just as real as the bigger thought
(experience). Although I feel there is a distinction in that I
give a bigger hope of this experience sharing an overlap with
other experiences/others. Hmm perhaps I just need to experience
some contrast which something 'more real'.

Hi Floris:
So, this is a dream and if you stub you toe in this dream it
will hurt.... and that is what makes it real. Am I close?
Have you ever had dream that seemed real... perhaps even has sex
in the dream... and at the time, did that dream seem real? But
upon awakening.. poof, you realize that nothing really happened.
It's virtually identical to my experience in the waking dream.
Once you awaken, you realize the impermanence of this human
dream.
Love ya, Jed.

Hello,
A) hmm no I don't see how stubbing the toe and feeling hurt, or
stubbing the toe and not feeling hurt would give a different
(level of) realness to them. Experience, appearances, fantasy
perhaps even, life. same thing for my understanding.
B) Actually, yes, I used a lucid dream to have sex with my crush
once;D but, nothing happened? but the experience/appearances
happened no? ???
Thank you
