Dear Members, et.al.;
A friend wrote me an email inquiry as to how I can be (fill in
the blank) and confess to also being paranoid. Well, I thought a
thoughtful response from my thoughtless mind would be a good
idea. It's one of the many paradoxes I embrace. Here's a little
story.
Something like 6,000 years ago man's (and of course women's)
mind came into being in the fashion that it is today and thus
the ego was born.
Sidebar: If you want a good read this weekend, the one book I
would want if marooned (painted a deep purple brown) on a desert
island, The Origins of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the
Bicameral Mind, by Julian Jaynes. About 650 pages but an
incredible read. I don't know if a Readers Digest/Coles Notes
version is available. Let me know if you find one.
So the little ego begins to grow. It’s pretty clever and
devious. It realizes that it’s a complete myth but has a strong
desire to survive so it comes up with a plan, a truly brilliant
one.
The ego says to the body, [i]‘Listen up, I know I am not real
and death will come, however, you also are not real and death
will come to you. I think we should enter into a
conspiracy’.[/i]
Now, ‘conspiracy’ is a much abused word and for good reason.
Within the concept lies a profound mechanism which I will
explain, but first a definition. A conspiracy is a plan devised
between two or more people to do something, anything. Very
simple. You and I could conspire to go to a movie this evening
or do something much more nefarious.
So little aspiring ego entered into a conspiracy with the rather
larger and more substantial body. Why not, they are really the
only game in town at the time, no movies. Ego said to the body,
‘In order for us to have more power I think we should work
together.’ Body, not being that clever said, ‘Duh, I don’t get
it’ (Flintstone’s style.).
Ego continued with in a sleazy tone of voice, ‘Well, I’ll tell
you what, when something of substance happens, say… someone
steals ‘our’ wife, I will send you a secret signal. I will
whisper ‘That should not have happened’, and they you will back
me up by getting all upset. You know, you can make your stomach
go into knots, and you can create a headache. Maybe pump more
adrenalin into the system. I’m sure you can come up with a
variety of ways, even though I’m the brains in the family’.
(forgive my grammatical errors.)
This is definitely a conspiracy as these two have agreed to
engage in a self-referencing feedback loop. The ego thinks
something and just to have more impact the body responds per
their agreement. The ego then says, ‘See, Org steal wife, bad
Org, must kill Org.’ There is a back and forth and it all builds
up to going over to Org’s cave and clubbing him to death in
order to make ego and body shut the ‘F’ up.
Keep in mind that the body has a function, eat poison, barf,
good body. The ego say’s ‘Time to get mastodon must go out’,
good ego. It’s the working together that creates this third
issue, the conspiracy.
Can you see how this works? You see your girlfriend making eyes
(or worse) with some hunk and your mind says, ‘Damn, that’s not
right!’. Then the ego says to the body, ‘Come on, support me in
this, remember our deal’. Body goes, ‘O.K. I’ll tighten up my
stomach, make myself feel a little shitty, then pick up a club
and go beat the crap out of him.’ Ego (being a little more
reasonable) says, ‘No, no, jail not good, just stew on this for
a long, long time, O.K.?’. Body agrees and we have a big
‘issue’ now. YOU are jealous.
If you think things like CNN, soap operas, mutli-zillion dollar
car races and other ridiculously expensive narcissistic TV shows
are out ‘there’ are something else, they are not. They are a
direct reflection of the mechanisms in us. We created them and
they continue to be popular it’s because they are real on some
(silly) level, but nonetheless real, well, as real as any
illusion can be.
So, what does the media call an outsider with an interpretation
that threatens the party line, a ‘Conspiracy Nut’. Of course
they would because they must demonize someone who threatens
exposure of this game. Forget about the Kennedy assassination
and the Twin Towers, they are absolutely peanuts compare to what
I am talking about here. This is about a deception that has gone
on for something like 6,000 years (an arbitrary number made up
after too much coffee). It has deceived almost all, even the
greatest minds of all time. The few that see through it usually
talk in metaphors, riddles, poems and the like and thus
frustrate the hell out of those that don’t. It's not easy
communicating something that language was designed to hide. And,
of course, those that don’t understand usually respond in
strange ways, either idolizing the person because the Great Rama
Lama Ding Dong understands the ‘impossible to understand’ or
just kill him off in some fashion. I think the reason for this
historically circuitous approach to explaining is they (rightly)
intuit a certain risk. A number of them have just shut up for
the rest of their lives, a good alternative.
Am I talking about Truth Realization/Enlightenment, always. But
in different ways and on different levels.
I have explained the conspiracy in contemporary terms, hopefully
in a way that makes some sense to you. How would Buddha explain
it, Lao Tsu, Rumi, Christ, Chuang Tsu and on and on? They would
use terms and metaphors consistent with their times and
experiences. It's the only tool available.
T/R is not just one experience and then, bingo bango, it’s over.
It’s never ending. How can infinity have an ending? It’s
realization on a never ending spectrum. That’s why you will find
someone explaining it one way and someone another. Of course
there are always those who don’t know what they are talking
about. Let your gut be your guide on that one.
T/R doesn’t mean you drop your ability to discern, your ability
to think when called for. You don’t have to become a
dysfunctional bliss ninny, although you can if you want. While
you will most likely (I don’t really know what it will be to
you) experience that all is well and perfect, you may also see
things that could be more perfect. You will be different in that
you don’t give a s h I t.
On that last point, someone asked me if I ‘don’t give a s h I t’
any more. I said words to the effect that ‘Yes, I don’t give a s
h I t about anything’ but went on to explain what I meant by
that. There is no ‘me’ in anything I do, hence ‘I’ don’t give a
s h I t. The result is this is no harm in what I do, there is a
much greater chance of success in what I do, and there is more
love in what I do, but all because there is no ‘I’ in what I do.
‘I’ don’t do anything other than watch in endless amusement.
Am I paranoid? Of course, but let me explain it as I understand
and live it. Everybody is lying to me, ALL THE TIME. They don’t
mean ill by it, they simply have no other way of being in this
moment. They embody a conspiracy that is many thousands of years
in the making and refining. This conspiracy has woven itself
seamlessly into human existence. Ego and body have agreed to
join as one in reinforcing the illusion that ‘you’ live. How
could they tell me the truth?
Now, an ‘enlightened’ one may see this as perfect, and it really
is perfect, a perfect conspiracy, a perfect joke, a perfect
whatever. Seeing through it is also perfect, and perhaps a
little more optimal.
Hold your hands out in front of you. Like you where holding an
apple in each one. Notice though, there is only emptiness in
each. This emptiness knows it’s as nebulous as hell, so the
right hand of emptiness says to the left hand of emptiness,
let’s get together and reinforce the belief that we are each
something as opposed to nothing. Sounds like a plan!
Does that make either one any more real? No way, but it just
might make them appear more real. Are you real? No way, but you
just might feel more real before you read this rant than after.
Is anything that has happened to you ‘serious’? Anything
‘important’? Anything ‘yours’? These are all no more than
expressions of the emptiness of your open hands.
Am I a ‘Conspiracy nut’? You better believe it, no wait, don’t
believe anything I say because that just might mean you have
entered into a conspiracy with me. Hmm…… question everything,
but make sure you apply the correct question. What is that
question? BK has a good one... 'Is that/this true?' You might
also ask, 'Who is experiencing this? or 'Where am I?' or 'What
the hell is Jed talking about?', or the most profound one that I
have found in my experience. 'Is it going to rain?'.

It's always fun to read your story. All you said reminds me that
I conspired something and then not like it anymore. No interest
in reading that 600 sth. pages. I'd rather take a nap.

So that's why you hide Jed, don't like the look of that cross on
the hill with the ominous dark clouds swirling? It's got to be
easier to say what needs to be said without dancing around
dodging spears and arrows while you're speaking right?
It's valiant and futile, courageous and worthless, like throwing
one starfish back into the ocean when the beach, as far as the
eye can see, is littered with them. The 6000 year old paradigm
(if you don't include Frodo and Middle-Earth) of which you speak
is so inscrutable that when one does get "outside the matrix"
above and beyond Maya, the language they speak upon coming back
is of another planet, Dog bless you Jed for attempting it,
attempting to build a verbal bridge over the chasm but honestly,
it's a flimsy piece of twine you've fabricated and most who
attempt it will fall into the abyss anyway.
I happen to be that starfish you tossed back, I'm still a bit
depleted from the experience and it will take me a couple of
years to consistently find the rails (went slumming to a bar
just last night, felt like a vampire in there, watching...) but
I am grooved to run them.
Actually Jed (sorry for the christian themes, if I was born
elsewhere they'd be other themes) you are really just John the
Baptist, preparing the way for me, it's my body hanging on that
cross and it's your head being served to a king somewhere. The
gospel (good news) is; "Hallelujah We are dead!, long live
Death!"

Dear Jed,
Your'e not arrogant by saying your'e enlightened. Arrogance is
holding the belief that others don't have a clue. No, - as you
pointed out to me - They dont!
Similarly your'e not paranoid. Paranoia is living under the
illusion that everyone is out to get you. No your'e not paranoid
- they really are out to get you!

Funny and great! And in my experience, drinking too much coffee
always leads me to osteoporosis. Now I quit it and I feel much
better.
