Stepping Back

Jed
You talk about stepping back when dealing with an issue, whether
it be difficult or non-event. I think you are instructing the
reader to shift the attention to perceiving the issue from the
point-of-view of awareness rather than being involved with it.
Is this correct? I wonder if this is like my analagy of
regarding myself as sitting at a desk (non-physical and
imaginary) and observing difficulties and non-events as they
appear on or pass over the desk.
Any more tips, suggestions how to do this? Clarification as to
your meaning? As mentioned in above paragraph, I try something
like this but don't know that it is the same thing. You made the
comment in "... Notebook," that it is beneficial to learn this
technique when one is under durress. Is it just a matter of
practice makes perfect?

Dear S:
Welcome to the new forum.
Yes, you understand it quite well and it's a very useful
mechanism in helping to keep you from being drawn into other
peoples drama. What other folks do and think are none of your
business. In fact, if you can step back far enough you might
just trip backwards and fall into T/R, but no guarantees.
Here is an example. Your are talking to someone about... the
fighting in the Middle East. There are two of you talking but
imagine for a minute there is a third 'you' a foot or two away,
just observing. That third you can watch what is going on
without the same involvement. Maybe even offer suggestions. It's
all imaginary of course, but then so is everything else in your
world. Just use it as a tool, practice, be gentle and remember
to breathe. It's not intended to become a way of life, just a
little informative play.
Who knows, maybe that imaginary you can guide you towards T/R.
Love ya. Jed.

Thank you for giving such a clear and useful example. I will use
that instead of the desk thing.
