Custom Plenum?

Would it be worth making a custom inlet plenum to work with a
standard digifant? Thinking of building one for better/smoother
air delivery as i recon with tubing and such could build for
around 50 quid. Any thoughts or ideas would be great. Engine it
is for is a 1.8 stage one head with piper 270 cam (want a
"nippy" reliable road car).
Thanks in advance Tim.

Hi Tim
Not really at the power level your looking at as the std plenum
is fairly good, with actually little flow loss. A custom plenum
will end up a very similar result for a lot of effort.
A stage one type head and Piper 270 should make around 130-135
without to much trouble on an 1800 bottom end with a decent
exhaust system...closer to 140hp is possible if the airbox is
modded and a tubular type manifold is used.
Peak numbers are less important really for a road engine as you
want good low-mid range grunt which the above should provide.

The level of headwork is key to releasing the power
For more mid-range the easiest 'fix' is to up the capacity- 2L
block!
Flow-work, even hotter cam, 2.5" exhaust etc will all aid top
end breathing & tend to make it more revvy...

I think it's worth it.
