       December 2018 Calendar
By: Jack Date: December 2, 2018, 8:46 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
I am not as far ahead as I'd hoped to be on the Advent Calendar,
though I actually am ahead for once. I had hoped to have time
to do some updates, but I thought this would probably be the
most important thing to share right now.
Van and the Phantom's of the Academy are doing another charity
concert this year. If you read over the first posts in Van's
       biography thread -
  HTML https://jackshouse.createaforum.com/biographies/van-wells/
       -
you'll see a lot of detail about what happened last year.
The concert was a bit better planned this year. For one thing,
it's going to be on 8 Dec (next Saturday). That seems a bit
early, but the charities involved requested it, so they have
more time to process the donations and get them to the people
       who need them.
Once again, most everything is being donated to do the
performances - the high school is waving costs for their
auditorium, and they've had enough people volunteer to do the
work for which one normally pays (supervisor, security, and
janitorial) that there are no costs there. The Scouts are
providing most of the labor for a lot of the other stuff
(vending and seating, mostly), and the various charities are
handling their own work and everything else.
Van is handling the actual show again. There are two high
school bands and three high school choirs performing. There are
4 public middle schools, plus BCA's middle school, so it was
decided to have each of them select a few choir students who
will be performing vocals with the Phantoms, rather than trying
to make time for each group to perform. That seems to be
       keeping everyone happy.
Van has finalized the program, so things will be divided up, and
there will be a good mix of choral, instrumental, traditional,
and modern music, along with some other performances.
Last night, he had me out in the garage, as they were putting
the details on some of their own performances (it is his show
after all). Each of the Phantoms has two Christmas costumes,
and it looks like Van will be donning five different costumes
through the night, with a total of 8 costume changes, which
makes it sound like he'll spend most of his time off stage
       undressed.
Yesterday, we spent the afternoon at Yesterland Farms, a fun and
old-fashioned place that the kids enjoy. It's a bit.... cliched
(?) for the teens, but some of them still join us to roll their
       eyes while secretly enjoying themselves.
School will release early on 18 Dec, which gives us a full week
between then and Christmas Day. So far, the schedule looks like
       this.
15 Dec - Scout Christmas Party (at the Family Center)
       18 Dec -
19 Dec - These three nights will be set aside for the kids to
have smaller celebrations with their friends.
       20 Dec -
       21 Dec - Cousin's Night
       22 Dec - Tribal Party
       23 Dec - Quiet Night
24 Dec - Christmas Eve dinner and celebration with the extended
       family
       25 Dec - Merry Christmas

I think that it is great that Van manages to coordinate all the
charity concert and also play in it. I hope that he has a good
       time!
Will Fido have an appearance ?
Good that all the parties are scheduled I am sure that you will
be very busy, but have a great month!
       Thanks for sharing!
       Hugs
       Leti

I believe Fido will have three appearances in the concert. I
think he's going to come out with Van for the start, concluding
comments, and he will be at the piano for Van's solo.
Van does have help, and he can ask for more when he needs it,
but I agree that he's doing an awesome job with this. If his
grades stay up as well, I'm going to be really impressed with
       the job he's done.

Things are following along pretty well with the schedule I
posted, except tonight is basically a family night.
After seeing Mary Poppins Returns (which I think tried a little
too hard, but was still great) yesterday, we saw Phantom of the
Opera at the Fair Park Music Hall. I don't care for the play
that much, but the kids loved it. However, the upshot is that
the kids are worn out. Curtis fell asleep on the ride home, and
he slept through me carrying him in and putting him to bed.
Tomorrow night is Cousin's Night and Saturday Night is the
       Tribal Christmas Party.
