Re: Quoth the Raven: 'Anymore'

Anymore is why I get upset at Flagellant. It's a simple case of
him violating his own posted rules, which is the kind of thing
that ticks me off.
First the rule was 'we won't correct your grammar'. The then
rule was 'if the story's not correct, we'll return it to you
for correction'. However, if he has a way to sneak the changes
he wants in, he'll do it and not even tell you.
I seriously considered removing my stories from MMSA over all
this. The only problem is, it not only won't hurt Flag, he'd
probably like it. As long as I've been around, he seems to have
shown a distinct bias towards one, very limited, type of
story/author. Also, while it does arguably violate my copyright
for him to post my stories in an altered form I've not approved,
it's not like he makes any money off of it. In the long run,
the only people who would be hurt would be my readers.
So, while I certainly don't understand why Flagellant picks the
battles he does, or why he gets upset when he insults huge
groups of people, then doesn't understand why they get mad at
him trying to be Lord High Grammar, my biggest concern is what's
going to happen when he finally takes his ball and goes home.

Otherwise, yes, 'anymore' will be changed to 'any more.' Also,
yes, when this discussion came about Flag wrote a code that ran
through all 30,000+ stories and converted any use of 'anymore'
to 'any more.' As I recall, I had 32 alterations to my stories.

Doesn't seem to have worked properly if there are still 87
stories in which the word appears!! :)

As I understand it, bipolar disorder patients may experience
periods (sometimes years) of deep depression when they can do
nothing and face no one, suddenly interspersed with involuntary
periods of hyperactivity when they pursue grand plans and
frantic actions that (sometimes) no one wants or understands.
I believe symptoms can include grandiosity and impulsivity.
I've read that bipolar people may be unaware they're ill, and
simply don't know their actions in the manic or hypomanic phases
upset those around them.
Sadly, it seems there's a higher than average incidence of
suicide amongst bipolar patients during the inevitable
involuntary periods of deep depression that follow manic or
hypomanic episodes.
I'm sure we Bransom people will tread carefully, understanding
these may be the circumstances of our colleague in MMSA.

My response will only make sense if you follow Adric's link and
read his and PJ's posts on the MMSA forum.
I appreciate that y'all are peacemakers. However, the issue
isn't really Flag's pontificating, is it? I don't think anyone
cares about Flag's being dogmatic or pompous. He could bore for
England if boring were an Olympic event, but that's harmless.
The problem is his ugly attitude towards Americans and American
culture.

The USA is only carrying on where the British left off.
There was a saying "The sun never sets on the British Empire" to
which George Bernard Shaw added "That's because it doesn't trust
it."

Personally: I never claimed to speak or write English.
I speak and write American. The longer I live the more I am
convinced American is a separate language. I would even dare to
say Australian is a separate language also.
And Honestly: I have a difficult time with American. There is
no way I want to try and learn English on top of it.
