Flagellant is back at MMSA again... any bets on how long it will
be before the next tantrum?
He is already laying down the law on 'totally incorrect English
usage' again and all...

The raven quote is referring to the last ungodly tantrum that
roiled MMSA over the use of 'anymore' versus 'any more'; which
occurred some years ago (for the edification of those who were
not present at the time).

All I'm going to say is that Flagellant has done a great service
for our community with MMSA, both for authors and for readers.
Oh, and in a totally unrelated matter, I'm just going to leave
this here.

1 : of, relating to, or being a pedant
a pedantic teacher
2 : narrowly, stodgily, and often ostentatiously learned
a pedantic insistence that we follow the rules exactly
3 : unimaginative, dull

That he has done a great service to the community is not to be
denied.
However, his arbitrary pronouncements on what constitutes
correct English, made on his rare appearances on the site, do
call for a response. The one I've just made will probably be
considered neither a model or constructive, but it mde me feel
better! ;D

Stevie does not deny that Flag has done a lot of good but this
pattern has gone on for a long time and seems to be rather
self-defeating and all...

something linguistic and completely unimportant such as the
'any more' 'anymore' controversy, which point is debatable if
one actually wants to be pedantic about it.[/li]
[li]There is a crisis in which Flag has to deal with Dream Host,
since they will not deal with anybody else.[/li]
[li]A good many badly needed corrections are finally made to the
code in short order.[/li]
[li]Flag gets on his high horse about some other unimportant and
somewhat debatable grammatical issue.[/li]
[li]The debate gets heated and tempers flare on both sides.[/li]
[li]Flag takes off on a huff and disappears for a long
time.[/li]

Repeat cycle endlessly....

Um Stevie does not want to upset anyone but he is going to risk
it and all... he does realise that no-one pays any attention
whatever to him, anyway...
There is no point in responding to this since all it will do is
irritate Flagellant and start another major row. If his pedantic
and unnecessary pronouncements are quietly ignored, there will
be no further trouble...
It is quite evident that there needs to be a considerable amount
of work to be done behind the scenes on the site code, and it is
not desirable for Ian to leave right now...
It is probably best for everyone to avoid pouring petroleum
distillates upon what is currently a very small and
insignificant smoulder indeed...

I just saw Flagellant's reply to Ivor's humorous post on the
Lego issue. Anyone capable of conflating grammar with the Trump
administration's assaults on truth needs to be
institutionalized. He has no sense of humor, and I'm sick of his
bigotry towards American idiom and spelling.

I'm sure you are correct Stevie, but he has succeeded in stoking
my smoulder point simply because of his irrationality. Apart
from my response to his response I will do my utmost not to
comment further - always assuming he doesn't ban me first :D
