       First Day of School
By: Jack Date: August 17, 2018, 4:31 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Of course, I already talked about the younger boys getting
spanked for misbehaving on their way home, but that's not all
       that happened that day.
Actually, the first day got off to a really great start. Ryan,
Noah, and Bryce all cut their work outs short, so they could
make breakfast and lunch for us. It was not only nice of them,
but it saved me a lot of time, and made it easier for me to keep
an eye on all the boys to make sure they were getting ready on
       time.
Things would be a lot easier if I only had one kid. These days,
it's important for me to have a schedule for everyone, and for
everyone to stay on it, because I have to be able to tell if
there's a problem. When it was just me and Steve, I didn't have
to work to do that, because I could tell by where he was if he
was doing what he needed. Also, he was only 11 when he moved in
with me, so he didn't shower in the mornings, and he had his own
bathroom, which meant it hardly took any time for him to get up
       and moving.
We had scrambled eggs with biscuits and sausage gravy, bacon and
link sausage, Eggos, and cereal and toast (or English muffins or
bagels) were available, so everyone got full. The boys had
meatloaf sandwiches, small bags of chips, and homemade brownies
for dessert - pretty good for sack lunches.
While Joel only has three brothers, the all had to share one
bathroom, so things weren't too shocking for him. Of course,
he's known me and many of my boys for years, and he's stayed
here many times before, so it was maybe a bit weird for him to
get ready for school here, but he seems to be fitting in well.
There really wasn't much else going on. The rain that had been
with us most of a week had passed, so the little guys rode their
bikes, while the rest of the kids all got out the door a few
minutes ahead of schedule (so they had time to chat with friends
       before having to start class).
While I know one morning doesn't really set a tone for the whole
year, at least we had a smooth, pleasant start.

Let's hope that a nice first day is a good omen for many nice
       days to come.
