29 July 2018 - Parties Yesterday
By: Jack Date: July 29, 2018, 9:47 am
---------------------------------------------------------
Before I forget, I have to update about yesterday.
First of all, yesterday was our official adoption day
celebration.
As I said elsewhere, Marcus and Marcia took the boys to
Arlington and spent a couple of days at 6 Flags and Hurricane
Harbor. Apparently everyone had a good time. the boys knew
that this was an anniversary celebration, and they knew Mom and
Marcus were going to be going out of town. That way, they
weren't surprised when they were told to get their bags and get
ready to spend a few days here.
On another front, Marcus and PJ were staying in close
communication. Jake and Ryan Tucker knew they were coming over
here, so they'd been told to get their chores at home done
yesterday morning.
Purely coincidentally, PJ and Marcus pulled up at the same time,
came in and through the house, then on to the patio where we'd
hung 'Welcome to the Family' banners and were ready for a
celebration. It was announced that Marcus had officially
adopted Kline, Glen, and Paden, that I had officially adopted
PJ, Ryan Tucker, and Jake, and that, while I hadn't adopted him,
I had full parental rights over Emmet, and his last name has
been changed to Wells.
There was a lot of hugging, and some tears, but it was a good,
happy celebration.

Yesterday evening was a totally different kind of party.
When Scott Angle contacted me, the only one of his old friends
with whom he was in communication was Jon Carver. Jon let him
know I still owned the comic store, but Scott didn't realize
that a lot of his old Magic playing buddies, including a couple
of guys with whom he was very close are still around. While not
everyone could make it, Jon, his little brother Jeff both came,
and I asked Tim, Herman, and Andrew (all of whom work for me
now), as well as a couple of other old friends whom I don't
think I've mentioned before, to join us.
Jon is divorced, and this was the fourth weekend, so he didn't
have his kids, but Jeff is still married, and brought his
family. Tim and Herman are married (to each other, I mean), and
Andrew is still single, and Jake came by himself, but a couple
of other guys brought their families, so we had a good crowd.
We had planned on doing some gaming. Instead, we ended up
mostly sitting around and discussing what we've been doing
lately. I think we're going to try to get together again soon
and play a small Magic tournament, but right now too many people
were out of date, so we have to decide on some deck design rules
first.
The next thing is that there were a lot of new kids over, but no
one got in trouble, and it was nice to hang out with some people
I haven't seen in a while.
