       Fourth Period - Challenged Elemntary
By: Jack Date: July 7, 2018, 5:15 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
I finalized my reading list for this class today, so I thought
I'd go ahead and talk about it a bit.
First, allow me to share my list of students.
       Ricky Sherman
       Paul Ewing
       Evan C
       Jose C
       James D
       Chase D
       Mike L
       Logan N
       Robert P
       Alexander R
       Jack T
       Michael V
       Nick W
As you can see, I actually know a couple of these students. I
haven't had a chance to have a introductory meeting with any of
the rest of them yet, but I did meet several at the block party
Wednesday (all my students and their families were invited).
Logan's family is supposed to join us for lunch tomorrow, so
I'll have that to report on soon.
In the meantime, my final decision today is that we're going to
go for three books in the first six weeks: Rocket Ship Galileo
by Robert Heinlein will be the first. That one is 228 pages. I
think we'll read Lassie Come Home next, which weighs in at 268
pages. Then, i'm currently planning to work on Goosebumps:
Welcome to Dead House for the last book this six weeks, which is
180 pages. I was also considering Swiss Family Robinson, which
is ...? I need to check and make sure the version I order is
unedited or be sure of which one we use, so maybe it's a good
       deal we put it off.
In my advanced classes, I'm planning to do all fantasy novels in
the second six weeks to align with some writing and research
projects. I'm not sure if we'll go with some of the same books
for the challenged classes yet or not.

:o That's by far my least favorite out of Heinlein's juveniles,
even if it does have the deliciously pulp idea of nazis on the
       Moon.

I started with Heinlein's adult works (the first one I remember
is Stranger in a Strange Land when I was 15).
I decided to start with this one simply because it was the first
       one.

Let's see how it goes. That one is much more rough around the
edges than all the other Heinlein juveniles.
