If I were growing up in your household I'm sure you would get a
shot at me now and then. Exactly how often is hard to judge
from this distance. Your main problem would be a kid with a
sometimes attitude problem who didn't know when to shut up about
closed subjects. I've improved a lot in that area but still not
completely cured (as you know).

Lexans are worse than the bath brush, but I normally use the two

What a spanking-filled day :o
I hope Liam gets over his problems with punctuality and chores.
You'd expect a 17 year old to have less problems with that. I'm
sorry he feels stupid :(
It's less surprising that Zeke has these problems, even though
he is older. For the little kids it is not unexpected, and I
also felt sorry for the early teen kids who felt embarrassed. At
least the spankings were not too hard.
Is this an isolated incident or are you planning on being
stricter about chores?

That's kind of a tough question, DB.
I'd like to be easier about them - at least to giving the boys a
bit more leeway in what things have to be done. I can and do
sometimes let things slide if someone is having a horrible day,
but I'd like to let some things be more on each boy's schedule
(except C&C for now). The problem is, some of the boys seem to
take that to mean 'don't have to do it at all'.
I'd like the boys to take two lessons from what I'm trying to
do: it's always easier to stay on top of things, so you have
slack when you actually need it, while also learning to balance
freedom with responsibility.
But no - if we can't work things out otherwise, then I'll go
back to being as strict as I was, with daily, 8pm checks.

This is really the first time I can think of that he's done it.
I think it was mostly pure frustration at what he's coming to
see as a pattern. However, I did drop his therapist an e-mail,
and I will mention it at the evaluation next week.

On a lighter note, I'm currently at an RV Park in mid-Texas.
While my boys have been staying out of trouble, there are a
couple of minor incidents to report.
Yesterday, late morning, we'd gone into town to get supplies for
lunch and dinner and breakfast this morning. Coming back in, we
past some people I'd met the night before. It was an extended
family - grandparents were in one RV and parents and grandkids
were in another. There were six total, including a boy about 9
and a girl probably 6. It looked like a spanking situation
might be in the air, and I'll admit I was paying some attention.
As I walked by, Grandma said something to the effect of 'You
can't spank this baby for that!'.
I glanced behind me to see Dad standing there, looking like he'd
just been hit in the head with a baseball bat. I knew exactly
how he felt, because I've heard the same thing from my mom,
applied to things that would have got my butt torn up by her.
The second happened last night.
The water park closes at 6pm, but they have 'night slides' from
8:30 to 10pm. My bad knee was bothering me, so I was sitting
off to the side just watching. I saw a gentlemen take his son
(slightly smaller than Kenny, so 12 or 13?) by the upper arm and
move him away from the slides. It looked kind of serious, so I
did pay attention and moved a bit to see if I could overhear.
".... of you picking on them, Donny. Do you just want another
taste of the strap?"
"No, sir."
"I want us all to have fun on this trip, but if you keep asking
for it, you can have a sore butt every single day. Understand
me?"
"Yes, sir."
Dad went back to the slides, but the kid headed for the rest
rooms, so I followed him. I felt kind of bad for him. I think
he was crying a little. I said, 'hi', but he barely acknowledged
me, so I left him alone after that. Cute kid, though.

It was a pretty good month, over all, but I did have to finish
it with a couple of chore paddlings the last couple of days.
Leif and Kaden both got paddled (Leif was Sunday night, and
Kaden last night) for just falling behind on their chores.
Neither of them was especially serious - just enough to make a
bit of an impression about the importance of staying on top of
things.

How did they take it? Resigned? Under protest? Begging?

Both of them were pretty much resigned. Since it's only a few
swats, it's usually quick and not too painful, so the older boys
usually just want to get it over with.
