       27 June 2018 - Night and Day
By: Jack Date: June 27, 2018, 2:54 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
We've had a good time the last 20 hours or so.
Monday and Tuesday, the little guys stayed in Arlington, in
between a visit to Six Flags on Monday and one to Hurricane
       Harbor on Tuesday.
Hurricane Harbor closes at 7pm on weeknights, but there's still
sometimes heavy traffic at that point, so they stopped at Cici's
       for pizza before heading home.
In the meantime, the college boys and older high school boys who
were home, along with Huck, and a select few of their friends,
like Bruce, Blake Cavanaugh and his little brothers, Eli, Denny,
Jerry Costas, and the Hogan boys (Rory and Kirby), as well as a
couple of my employees - Wyatt Jones and Garrett - joined me in
grilling some steaks and sharing a few beers or wine coolers.
It was very hot yesterday, and it was just nice to lay out near
the pool (but not too near it with glass bottles!) and enjoy the
evening. While no one drove last night, we made sure no one got
more than a bit buzzed (though Aidan Cavanaugh is still a bit on
the small side, and he might have been a bit closer to tipsy
than buzzed). A number of the boys enjoyed some time skinny
dipping before I got a text that the littles were almost home.
Part of the reason for that is that Cole Cavanaugh and Jerry
Costas are both close friends with Jeremy, and I wanted to make
sure they had a chance to spend some time with him. A lot of
the reason is that a number of these kids have been working for
me, especially on the Imaginarium, and I wanted to make sure
they knew they were appreciated beyond just a paycheck.
Except for Ed and Drake Simmons, all the littles spent the
night at home last night (their home, not mine), so things
       remained fairly quiet.
I worked this morning, which I've really wanted to do for a
while. I love all the things I have going on, and I love being
able to spend time with the kids, but, when I quit teaching back
in '91, I honestly thought comics were what I was going to do.
Thanks to that lotto ticket, my life opened up way beyond that,
but I still miss working in the store, and I enjoy doing it when
I have a chance. Which isn't to say I don't trust Daniel, Josh,
and the guys to do a great job of keeping things running. It's
just that I enjoy doing it myself when I have the chance.
With a lot of the kids still at camp (or gone elsewhere) and no
Scout activities today, the older boys divided up the younger
ones and supervised them playing a couple of games of capture
the flag. After that, they broke out the water guns, and played
a game that seems to me best called (less than) organized chaos.
Ryan got a few helpers, and they warmed up the kitchen to make
tacos and/or burritos for lunch today, and they were mostly
relaxing by poolside by the time I got home.

Organized chaos can often be a very fun game.

I talked about the wedding in Corey's bio, so I'll just say it
was a fun time for everyone. I even managed a few dances
without making a total fool of myself (I think). It helped that
I avoided my usual drink and just sipped a couple of mixed
drinks for most of the evening.
I'm just about to walk out the door to get the kids from camp.
I've had a lot of water and juice already, but I want to stop at
Whataburger to get some actual food and a Coke Zero to get the
day going right. I didn't manage much sleep last night, so
hopefully I can sleep a bit on the bus... Maybe I shouldn't get
       the Coke afterall.

Safe travels and I hope you get some sleep on the way down to
       get the boys...
       Hugs kal
