Re: New Principal - Ken Sanders

A couple of notes about the Sanders family, who are getting
settled in, and whose oldest two have been visitors here a
       number of times now.
Joe is short for Jose. He's half black and half-Hispanic. He
doesn't want to go to BCA, but his grades need some major
improvement, and his parents feel that will be much easier at
BCA, if for no other reason than class size. On the other hand,
he's feeling better about it, now that he's met Marcus a few
times. The reason he wants to go to public school is for the
       sports programs.
Jeremy and I continue to get along well. He loves the library
and has discovered several authors who are new to him. He does
enjoy sci-fi and fantasy, and he plays Yugioh and Magic: the
       Gathering, so major pluses.
Jeremy had asked me about discipline at BCA, and what he'd hoped
were rumors. His dad had pretty much told him that, if he gets
in trouble at school, the decisions will probably be left up to
his teachers, Mr. P, or maybe me, rather than calling Ken in on
it. Jeremy (13) has already made friends with a lot of the BCA
kids who hang around here, but some of them had told him a few
things about how discipline can be handled there, and he came to
       me for confirmation.
"You can be paddled by your teacher, though that's pretty
limited. If your behavior's bad enough to get you sent to the
office, especially if it's not the first time, then you can
expect a longer paddling, and probably with your pants down.
And yes, if you get in serious enough trouble, there's a good
chance you'd get a long, hard paddling on your bare butt."
"Oh, great. Just like home," he muttered, and I'm pretty sure
he thought he was saying it to himself. He certainly seemed
embarrassed when he realized I'd understood him.
Unfortunately, there were several things occurring, and I didn't
have the privacy to follow that up the way it asked to be.

:) That's cute... and lends itself well to the unhelpful adult
answer "you just need to behave, just like home".

Jeremy and Joe have both been regular visitors the past couple
of weeks. Both of them fit in pretty well, though in totally
different ways. Both of them have also been very well behaved.
I think the move has been a bit rougher on Joe, since Jeremy had
to move out of a bad situation at his mom's house, and didn't
even have time to really settle in at his dad's former home
before they were moving again. He seems pretty happy to be with
his dad, and very happy to hang out here. Jeremy is very much
more of a reader/gamer type kid than his brother is, though Joe
seems very happy with the amount of time we spend outdoors
       around here.
If either one of them has been in trouble since their arrival, I
haven't heard about it. Jeremy has admitted that he hates
getting grounded, and he not only seems to understand that my
boys do get paddled (on a theoretical basis, at least), and he
also seems to accept that I'm a teacher at the school, so will
be able to paddle him, even if it's not clear if I could/would
now or not. Still, he seems shy about the actual fact that he's
physically punished, and he doesn't seem very comfortable with
the subject so I don't push.
I don't see the younger kids very much, but both of them are
probably too young to have the free reign 12 and 13-year old
boys would get. I understand they're spending part of each week
in a day care program while the rest of the family is settling
in. I know Ken is spending time at school already, setting up
his office, learning the layout, and getting ready for us to
start back next week (the teachers, not the students).

Yes, you said the younger kids were 6 and 4, so obviously too
young to visit on their own.
So Jeremy is shy about CP. Well, that means less information,
but shy kids are cute :)

Jeremy is very cute, and he and I are becoming close friends
through our common interests. Joe and I get along, but we're
not nearly as close - just not that much to talk about.

Couldnt see if you had spanking rights with the Sanders boys on
your own patch or whether you'd refer them back to their Dad

With Jeremy, I pretty much have rights. With the other kids,
I'd probably refer them to their dad. That's mostly because
Jeremy and I are closer, and we know each other at school, even
though he's not actually one of my students.
