Re: Summer Daze - 2018

Some of the older kids went home yesterday afternoon. The rest
of us willing be heading that way this afternoon.
We've had some showers and thunderstorms the last couple of
days, which closed the water park early yesterday. Of course,
there's no chance of rain today, but the weather will be back
close to 100F after the milder weather the last few days, so I
guess it's a trade off.
I talked it over in chat last night. Tonight is Summer Movie
Series (Jake and Connor have still been running things and
keeping up with the projects while I've been away), but I was
thinking about making all the kids stay home with no visitors
tomorrow morning to get unpacking and cleaning done. I think
we've decided to tell the boys it has to be done by Sunday
night, but recommend they get it out of the way, and let them
know they're on a redline (red, as in the color there butts will
be if they don't get it done). Since Connor and Curtis don't do
their own laundry yet, I probably will make them do it tomorrow
morning.
Not much else going on. Despite the water park closing, it was
a fairly short shower (they have to close when there's lightning
in the area), and there was still a lot to do. A lot of the
activities are more oriented towards younger kids, but it's
still been a good time for all.
Of course, this is a family park, and there's a ton of RV space.
A lot of people seemed to stop mid-afternoon, the kids would
hit the water park, the parents would hit the laundry room, and
they'd be gone the next morning. Yesterday early evening, there
were these two great boys - 12 and 13, I think they said, but
looked like twins - and it looked like they'd both had a recent
growth spurt, since their shorts were a little snug and were
well above their knees. Both boys were running around in
nothing but shorts and sneakers, and I later noticed they were
also both wearing white briefs.
Overall, it's been a good trip, and the kids have had great fun,
but I'm looking forward to getting back home.

Great that everyone had a good time and the rain shower did not
disrupt too much the fun of the kiddies. You have seen a lot of
shirtless kids this week, great view.
It is always nice to get back home, and sleep again in your bed
with your cats, and I am sure that the pets love it when their
humans are with them!

I hope that all stay before the redline about their chores!
Thanks for sharing :)

Sounds like a very fun trip even if the water ark had to close
... happy everyone enjoyed it.
It’s always fun and exciting to leave on a tri but it’s also
nice to get back home when you’ve been away..
Safe travels

I think it was Adric who pointed out, in chat last night, that
the forum has been fairly quiet the last few days. This article
might explain why.
HTML https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2018/07/16/sahara-dust-adding-heat-misery-texas-week/788214002/
I have what I consider mild allergies - they don't act up often,
and when they do, it's because there's something extreme
occurring. I've been having problems this week, including a
persistent cough. Poor Mickey has been miserable all week, and
is taking the heavy meds and sleeping a lot more than he
normally does.
Add to the dust that we've been reaching temperatures above
105F/41C+ and you'll understand why everyone around here has
been a little low on energy.
The boys have been doing shortened versions of their work outs
first thing in the morning, then playing games with water guns
and balloons. Yesterday they just made a giant slip and slide
and today they intend to spend the entire day in the pool, just
having some organized games and/or contests. I'm planning on
bringing one or two of the wet inflatables home tomorrow for
them to use.
Anyway, while things have been going on, it's taken most of my
energy to deal with them. I'm trying to keep a list of things
to blog about, and hope to catch up soon.

Who would have thunk it, that dust from Africa would be hitting
Texas.
It's slow moving up here also. Really high pollen counts and
allergy risk along with the heat and humidity makes working
outside cautious. I am in the process of hanging my last 100
foot section of privacy fence. Yesterday worked at my sister's
house rearranging her utility room and putting in new wiring for
a dryer she is getting. Also going through lots of old
paperwork of my parents, to find documents needed for my
siblings to get the new Star driver's license. It's the new
documented license that will be used for flying, voting and etc.
Thus am not online as much with these other projects going on.

I remember that has happened before. I looked at that map
showing the path of the dust and I'm right on the track shown
for that dust. If it keeps going beyond TX then it will be
arriving here.

We have our stars, but it was a bit of a challenge to come up
with suitable documents. Be sure if you take a document that
you take all of it, not just the first page or pages. That
tripped us up because we didn't know they wouldn't accept
partials.

I didn't have a problem with my paperwork. One of my sisters
didn't have any problem with her paperwork. But one of my
brothers has a huge problem with his birth certificate. The
first one he took, they denied because of it's condition. The
second one they denied because it was a copy. The third one
they denied because it was issued by the hospital. They finally
took the forth one he took to them. Now, you would say, why
didn't he take all four to begin with? He didn't have all four
to begin with. That is why he came to me to go looking through
our parents papers to see if they had one that would work. Each
time I discovered one, he took it to them and they said no.
Finally on the fourth one they said yes.
Notice I used both forms of four in this post. Forth and
fourth. Evidently the grammar police haven't decided which is
proper and are accepting both for now. I looked at it as forth
was like, Go forth young man. and fourth was the number. But
now both are acceptable for the number.

Really hot again today, but we're moving to the Family Center
for Scouting this afternoon, so we'll probably do another short
version of the morning work outs, then spend the rest of the
morning in the pool.
Today is supposed to be the last day of the (really bad) heat,
with tomorrow not even breaking 100F, and the overnights getting
back down into the 70s again. No chance of rain until next
week, but just the slightly cooler days should help some.
I still have several threads I need to catch up on, but things
have been a bit more quite recently. The heat is probably part
of that, but part of it is that things have settled down.
Normally this would be the mid-part of summer for us, but school
will be starting a couple of weeks earlier than normal this
year, to get us on a more reasonable schedule (I haven't heard
specifically, but there appears to have been a change at the
Texas Legislature, because this was when school used to stop it,
and the Legislature passed a law to make it start later, in
their never ending pursuit of business over people).
Anyway, I am still around. There are a few things coming up,
but mainly we're taking a group of kids into Fort Worth to see
the Museum of Science and History. Besides that, with only
three weeks until school starts, we're going to have our doctors
visits next Tuesday, and I'm scheduling shopping trips for the
boys in the next couple of weeks. I also need to go through and
double check when all the kids will be heading back to college
and get that posted.

It's great that you could stay out of the hot. It sound like it
was a great option. Good that almost everyone had a good time.
We are having very hot days, but it is raining almost every
evening, that helps.
How is the Continental and the Imaginarium doing?
Thanks for sharing :)

With all the crap we have in the air right now, we could use a
good rain or two.
The Imaginarium is doing well. It's slow during the week days,
but picks up a bit at night, and we're crazy busy on weekends.
I did a walk through yesterday and decided we needed to increase
our stock on some items - there are little novelty item gift
type things - key chains, t-shirts, small toys - that seem to
just fly off the shelves. One of the things I'm having to
address is the problem of maintaining and rotating stock against
having too much crap crowding the shelves.
The Continental has slowed down a bit, but the drive through
stays really busy, and we still have a pretty good breakfast and
lunch crowd. Things are still a bit slow at dinner time, but
that's picking up on Friday and Saturday nights, which is good.
