27 May 2018 - Lunch Today
By: Jack Date: May 27, 2018, 11:26 am
---------------------------------------------------------
I mentioned in Ben's thread that the Sherman Family is going to
be joining us for lunch today. First, someone suggested that it
would be great if they could meet some other BCA kids while
they're here, so we're also going to be joined by the Strouse
family, the Ewings, the Worleys, and the family of a pair of
brothers who are friends with Glen and Kline, but whom I don't
think I've mentioned before. We invited the Tidwells and
Knights as well, but they both had previous plans.
The boys have pretty much taken over the lunch. I told them
that we've had burgers and dawgs too often lately, so we're
having portobello mushrooms and chicken (both grilled). I'm not
sure what they're going to do for sides, but I know they're also
cleaning out the freezer to see what we have they can prep,
where we don't have enough for a family meal - just for extra
options (or, you know... to start fights).
Not much else going on right now, so I'm trying to take a few
minutes to catch up, but I'm beginning to think a nap may be
called for instead. Still should be a fun afternoon.

Nice having boys able and willing to take over lunch
preparations.

Considering that CP has dropped off a bit in most schools over
the last 60 years, I wonder if the BCA boys enjoy entertaining
the newcomers with stories of what they can expect when they
start school.

We know Ben and Ricky have been home schooled for a couple of
years now. We know their dad spanks. It might not make a
difference to them.

I was able to catch a short nap before people started arriving,
thanks to the boys taking things in hand.
I mentioned elsewhere that we were going to be serving infused
water at the new restaurant. I liked the sound of it enough
that I decided to pick up some infusers for the house as well.
When I woke, I found the boys had been experimenting, and we had
cucumber-mint water, citrus-blueberry, and watermelon-basil.
They all went over well, but plain iced tea and the infamous
'red Kool Aid' still seem to be favorites.
It looks like we hit 99F/37C today, but the humidity was down
about 36% and there was a mild breeze, so it was really kind of
nice (if you're a native of Texas or Mercury). Of course, the
kids were constantly in and out of the pool, and we had the fans
and misters going to avoid getting too hot.
One of the things I love about my kids is I rarely have to
chastise anyone into helping with family chores. The hilarious
thing is that the Worley and Strouse boys jumped up and helped
my kids (who hadn't cooked) help clear. Don't think that didn't
get some eye rolls from various parents.
Overall, it wasn't really anything special, but it was a good
time, and I think we all enjoyed ourselves. I especially think
Ben and Ricky are much more comfortable, now that they know
they'll have some friends when they start school next fall.

Never heard of them before. It is so hard trying to come up
with a unique alias for someone, and I just have known too many
people over the years to call everyone by one name.
