       25 May 2018 - Just Stuff
By: Jack Date: May 25, 2018, 4:33 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Things have been busy lately, and they're just going to get
busier. I'm trying to keep up, but I'm positive some things are
       slipping through the cracks.
I think you know most of the things that are going on right now.
Starting the new restaurant; buying the old Toys R Us and
remodeling it for a new business (and I don't have a partner for
that one, though Huck has been a huge amount of help); finals
are next week, and this year, I'm having to write my own, as
well as my kids prepping for them; and then everything that gets
       involved with the summer.
My cousin Andy called the other day, just to discuss our plans
for Jellystone (starting 9 July for four days), and he finally
opened up about some of the things that he's been obviously
wanting to discuss since he first got back in contact with me
last fall. I don't think there's much urgency on that before
the visit, so I'll take care of it when I have a bit more time,
though he did also talk about how his boys are doing, and Alex
       (11) does appear on this month's Spanking Report, and Ridley
       (13) may appear there (or it could have been the end of April).
I need to make a major update on Van, Eddy Campion, and Eddy's
       little brother, Pete (14).
Next week is graduation. This will have the biggest effect for
those of you who join me in chat in the afternoons.
Next Monday is Memorial Day in the US. and my brothers and their
families will be joining us for a barbecue and to remember our
father and grandfathers who served, though none of them actually
died in service. We usually gather between 10 and 11am, eat at
one, and break up by mid-afternoon, so I will probably make
chat, but it's hard to be sure.
Tuesday will be a pretty normal day.
Wednesday is the first day of finals, which is going to be a bit
weird, since I teach both high school kids and younger. The
thing is, the schedule for the HS kids shifts during finals,
while it stays the same for my other kids, but I'm pretty
positive we've figured that out. My schedule won't change that
day, or the rest of the week as far as teaching goes.
Thursday is Jeremy's graduation. It's kind of interesting.
You'd think that, after more than six years (and my GOSH, can
you believe they've been here since September of 11? In some
ways it seems like just yesterday, and it's so hard to believe
he and Ethan are already graduating, but in other ways, it
seems like they've always been part of the family), he and I
wouldn't be that close. Sometimes I think he idealized the
relationship we had, but then again, I was surprised that he and
I bonded as well as we did when he was here, so maybe it's not a
surprise. Either way, I know he'd be as disappointed as I would
be, if I didn't make his graduation. Ethan will be finished
with finals by then, and he can study on the road, and I'm
taking Leif and Kenny as well. I'm leaving as soon as we're out
of school (I have to pull Kenny out earlier, but we've already
cleared it with his teachers - he'll have to take one final a
day early, but he's ready for that), and we'll drive back that
night. No way I'm making chat that day.
Friday is graduation for BHS. I should be able to be there for
chat that night. After all, it's a short drive, and I won't
have to worry about helping people dress. I have been requested
to host a pool party after graduation, mostly because the boys
who hang out here aren't real party fiends, and they want to
have something reasonably quiet and where they know they don't
have to worry about drinking or smoking. I would never push
that on them, but I'm happy to host it. We'll already have the
tents set up for the last day of school anyway. I'll just farm
the little kids out to one of their big brothers, and shoo off
the crowd as soon as graduation is over.
Saturday is the fun day. It's graduation at BCA. While I don't
have an actual son graduating this year, the graduating class
includes Joe Mintz, Tyler Malone, and Ashley Loomis, so there's
no way I would miss it, even if I didn't know probably 1/3rd of
the class at least casually. I'm not planning on hosting a
party that night, and I'm hoping we can have a family night, but
that's not even the biggest part of the day.
A friend of mine is flying into town that morning. She has
family in southern Oklahoma, and flying into DFW is cheaper. We
were planning on getting together and visiting for a while, when
she found out that we have a Legoland Discovery Zone at
Grapevine Mills, and she really wanted to go. They have a 'no
unattended adults' policy, which means we have to take a kid,
but I really didn't want to mess with trying to take my kids
there and get back in time for graduation (especially since the
younger ones were just at a party there last week). However, I
have a friend who is going through some tough times right now.
I explained the situation to her, and offered to pay for her and
her son (who isn't really friends with any of my kids, as he
attends school on the far side of town, is 10, and is pretty
shy) to accompany us. She'll be meeting us there, so I can take
off as soon as my friend needs to leave, allowing me to make
graduation with no problem, while my other friend and her son
will be able to stay and enjoy themselves as long as they wish.
And after that, summer starts, leaving me with a veritible hoard
of kids around and lessons to plan, but at least there will be a
lot of nice scenery and it will be a different kind of busy.

Fortunately, most of the time isn't like this, which makes the
times that are like this not just bearable, but enjoyable.
