We watched Young Sherlock Holmes last night... At least the
older kids did. I wasn't sure the younger kids would appreciate
it as much, and they were more than happy to watch the original
Jurassic World.
It was actually really great last night, because we had some of
the younger kids staying over who hadn't before, and we had a
smaller, but intense, group of the older kids, since so many of
those are at camp right now.
Nothing special happened, but it was a good time.
And I should say thank you to Leti for recommending this week's
movie.

Friday night was 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
Since I couldn't be around for it, Jake and Connor got their
parents to come over and supervise.
Since I wasn't going to be home, most of the kids went home
after the movie, which made things easier on PJ and Ryan who
were supervising the house while I was gone. Sunset was about
8:40, so they started dinner at 8pm, and started the cartoons
and Batman episode at 8:30 (the movie started a bit after 9pm).
All reports from the attending adults are that everything has
gone really well.
Connor, Jake, and Ethan have been doing a great job with the
younger kids, both in supervising, and in helping with the
projects (helping the kids as needed, but also helping me). I
need to find something special to do for them towards the end of
the summer.

20,000 leagues under the see! Sounds exciting for the kiddies!
Good that you had backups for the Friday night movie!
About what to do for Connor, Jake, and Ethan? You can invite
them for dinner with you! Or maybe to play some laser tag !
:o

A good idea, Leti, but I was thinking more of a small trophy or
something wearable, where they'd have a reminder that I know how
hard they work and how much they did, and that I appreciate it.
Maybe a combination of the two would be good.

Having something physical that they can touch, hold, look at and
show off, is a good idea. Having a dinner out to give them the
gift, would be a plus. It makes it a special event.
If they are the kind of boys who wear accessories, maybe a
leather wrist bracelet with something memorable stamped into the
leather. I'm sure they have those kinds of booths everywhere in
Texas, with all the leather you have walking around on the hoof.

While some boys do wear that kind of thing, it doesn't seem to
be common right now. What seems to be common is necklaces and
sometimes rings, with various bracelets coming in way behind.
What I'm leaning towards right now is getting each of them a set
of dog tags with one tag having their vital information, and the
other giving the details of their 'above and beyond award'.

Dog tags are a great idea. They are an "IN" thing with the
Scouts around here right now.
I wore them as a kid. Dad being in military it gave my vitals
and his serial number so he could be found in case of emergency.

I remember that you made some kind of ceremony some years ago
and gave awards to the kids. I was thinking that you could have
several categories and give awards, maybe to the best pet
caregiver, or to the best cook, to the best coach and things
like that.
A nice key chain, or a money clip as the award :)

Not really the type of thing I was thinking of Leti, but thinks
for the links. Some of those will make nice stocking stuffer
type gifts.
At this point, I think I'm going to lock in on what's already
been mentioned - getting each of the boys a set of dog tags with
their vitals on one, and with the other one thanking them for
all their hard work with the younger kids. I'll take them out
for a nice meal and give it to them there.
I'll just have to get with Connor and Jake's parents and decide
what to put on the vital stats besides their name.

Now I remember wearing dog tags during some younger years. I
had forgotten all about them. (I also remember that Dad still
had his dog tags from WWII. They brought them out to convince
me I should wear mine, although our neighborhood wasn't exactly
a war zone.)
