16 May 2018 - Last Sunday/Mother's Day

---------------------------------------------------------
As you might guess, Mother's Day is not a big deal around here.
We do have several grandmothers - Rose, Mary, and my mom. Some
days we do more and have a brunch of something. This year, it
just worked out where we didn't do anything. My mom just had
hip surgery about 10 days before, so we decided not to have
plans. The day before, we took gifts around. We got my mom a
planter for her back porch, and a gift card, so she can get
plants for it when she decides where she wants it, and she feels
like working out there again. Mary and Rose both got flowers,
and Mary got a 'date pack' of gift certificates, while Rose got
some new art stuff she's been wanting. All three moms got gift
certificates for a spa day.
Of my 13 at home right now (including Clayton), the mothers of
Van and the Marsh boys are deceased, the mother of the Colter
boys is still in prison, and Colt and Zeke have no contact with
their mom, and Colt especially wants none. Parker, Kaden, and
Clayton all spent at least part of the day with their moms.
It was a beautiful day, though - a bit too warm for my taste,
but the boys loved it. We opened the pool last week, after a
much cooler (but not colder) winter than is normal around here,
then some rain, we finally had a few nice days together, and the
pool service came out and cleaned everything, refilled it,
shocked the water, and all that. We ended up eating breakfast
out by the pool, and most of the boys were naked and wet by that
time. Kaden and Zeke are both still a bit body shy, but even
they joined in.
By the afternoon, we had a pretty big crowd. There weren't many
people free at first, but we ended up with the Malones,
Marchants, Dugans, Lanes, Cowells, several of the
grand-families, and a few random kids. We ended up grilling
burgers and dawgs for lunch, though I ended up just sending
Ethan to the grocery store deli for sides.
It was a nice day, but that early, family only period was just
great. I think I need another (extended) family night soon,
with a planned, pool side (skinny dipping) brunch to end it the
next morning.
