       Easter 2018
By: Jack Date: April 1, 2018, 3:06 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
I have some catch up posting to do, but I decided I should start
       here, since it's time sensitive.
Chris Tidwell asked us to go to church with them today. He
promised that today would focus on the Joyous Resurrection, and
their preacher promised him (not in so many words) that they'd
be avoiding condemnation and conservatism. I agreed that we'd
go, as long as he agreed to let me take his kids with mine to
get new clothes for Easter. He started to argue.
"Chris, it's cute that you still try, but you know you're wife
will love it, and you know you're going to loose anyway. Why
don't you just give in gracefully now, and save us both some
       time."
I think he wanted to get mad, but he couldn't help but laugh.
The kids looked great. Bo and Linc and Curtis and Connor all
wore seersucker shorts and vests - Bo and Connor wore green
stripes, and Linc and Curtis wore blue, and they all wore white,
short sleeved shirts, and bow ties that matched the striped. We
don't have any boys between Linc and teens this year, but Chas,
Kenny, Colt, and Devon all wore long pants, vests, and bow ties.
Van, Leif, Kaden, Evan, and Zeke went without the vests and
wore regular ties. Ethan and Parker wore suit jackets with
matching pants. Liam didn't want to wear seersucker. We
finally got him in navy blue pants, but with a pale green (lime
ice?) shirt and a darker green tie. Perry also wore green shirt
and tie, but he wore his with a beige/cream slacks and jacket
combo. Mrs. Tidwell handled the shopping for the youngest boys
and the girls, but the boys got nice little seersucker suits,
and the girls got pretty spring dressing. She was very happy to
       see them
       [hr]
Church went fine. The service wasn't much different than to
what we're accustomed, though it ran a bit long. Afterwards,
they joined us for Easter Dinner (another condition of us
       going).
While we'd been at church, Daniel and Ryan came over to hide the
eggs, which was nice of them, since they don't have any kids
young enough to hunt. We did have chocolate laid out for
everyone, but the younger kids got extra. Just for fun, we took
some specially colored eggs (plain white), put paper in them
with letters, and hid them really hard. Each older kid was
allowed to find one of those, then they got the matching
envelope, which had various gift cards. It got their interest.
While not all of us went to church together, the egg hunt and
Dinner hosted us and the Tidwells, but also Ryan and his boys,
PJ and the boys, Jason, Marcus, and Chris and their families, as
well as Adam and his parents. Corey had called and said he
wanted to bring his girl friend, but asked if I could invite his
mom, so he could see us all, so the two of them were here, along
       with Cathy, Rusty, and Crystal.
For that many people, we had a big meal, and it was a bit
brunchy. There isnt' really a traditional Easter dinner - not
like for Christmas and Thanksgiving, except we usually have ham.
We served a couple of types of ham (smoked and honey glazed),
plus a pork loin, a couple of rotisserie chickens, some cordon
bleu, chicken Kiev, and chicken stuffed with asparagus and rice,
and a roast. We had asparagus, roast vegetable medley, salad,
broccoli and rice casserole, baked yams, baked corn, green bean
casserole, peas, and a couple of squash recipes (the smell of
squash or greens boiling turns my stomach, and I don't care for
it frying, so it was brought by requests - the Marsh kids love
that stuff). The brunch part came with grilled salmon, some
quiches and egg casseroles, scones, and a couple of what Kenny
tells me are called fritattas. Oh, and we had devil's eggs and
grilled shrimp for appetizers, and a lot of different potato
recipes. We served regular juices as well as virgin Mary's and
virgin Mimosas, sparkling grape juice, and soda.
The lops were allowed out, but in a confined area. Fido enjoyed
the extra attention, and the thanks for the candy. He didn't
admit he'd hidden it, but he didn't deny it either.
Oh, and as to Corey asking me to invite his mom -- he and Megan
are about 10 weeks pregnant and planning to get married in June.
I'm not sure his mother was amused, since she's 'too young to be
       a grandmother!'
Don't ask me for pity - I think this will be my 12th.

;D That's wonderful. For you it's normal, but to me it sounds
wonderfully exotic and crazy. I don't know if I have mentioned
it, but both my parents were single children, so I have a small
family. They should make a TV show about your family.
I have a friend, though, whose parents are both from very large
families, and when they organize their yearly family meeting
       they book a whole hotel.

Because my parents were divorced (and my mom was vengeful and
carried a grudge), I never got together with both families. Of
course, while she and her current husband both have a brother
and sister, it was very difficult for them to get together. To
me, this is no longer exotic and crazy, but it is special, and I
always remember how blessed I am to be able to do it, and to
have a place we can do it... even if it's gotten rather tight
       over the years.
Kal - Nope, the last part was NOT April Fools. They sure
seemed to be serious, and Corey might not survive to be a dad,
if his mom finds out it was a joke.
David - The kids were very sharp, and they drew a lot of
positive attention coming in together like that.
