       Holiday and Seasonal Picture Parades?
By: David M. Katz Date: March 20, 2018, 3:24 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
In the "celebrations" area we will post a picture parade for
some holiday celebrations and for the four major season changes.
Members are encouraged to participate in the parades and make
       comments.
Lately there has been reduced participation in these parades
with the spring parade receiving no responses (as of the time of
       this poll.)
Should we stop doing the parades?

Good question, Katz. I can only imagine your frustration having
gone to the trouble of creating these if hardly anyone looks and
       nobody comments.
I did mean to comment yesterday, but that thread dropped off my
radar because I didn't answer when I first saw it.
I don't really want to cast a vote, but I could well understand
you deciding not to bother in future if there is minimal
       response.

I think part of the problem is that this new forum doesn't bring
things to your attention as well as the original one did.
I have also noticed that participation overall is down. I have
made posts and received little or no response, so I understand
how you might feel you're wasting your time.
As for myself, I'm sorry I haven't had time to visit that thread
       yet.

I am confused? I know. Nothing new. I stay confused.
I thought the Spring Parade was like the BOTD photos. You pick
photos you want to write a BOTD for.
So I am confused by what you mean by comments? Are we supposed
to comment on each photo? I mean I can. There are certain ones
I love. I just didn't think what was the purpose of them being
       here.

As for posting in general, I have backed off some. I almost
always have something to say about everything, but I also know
my opinion differs from just about everyone. (Politics,
Religion, life, spanking, raising boys, boyhood in general) So
a little of me, goes a long way. I don't want anyone getting
disgusted with my view of the world and of life in general.
So lately I have been using emoji's for replying to posts. Less
chance of getting feelings hurt and controversies ignited.
Lately even the BOTD's have become tender for controversy. I
thought those were to be for fun and not taken seriously.
Although when we use real life experiences as the foundation for
the BOTD then it is easy for it to become controversial because
       it becomes personal then.
I tried satire. Making a joke of my response. That didn't go
over well at all. So honestly I don't know what to do? I love
this forum. I would rather just watch than to have
confrontation. I hate confrontation with every fiber of my
body. The older I get the more I hate it too.
So help me understand what is expected and I will try to
       re-engage.

Zyngaru - I'm just going to make a few general comments, instead
of commenting in depth or point by point.
I think satire can be very hard to do. Look at A Modest
Proposal. You would think anyone would realize that was satire,
yet, from what I understand, many people took it seriously and
were offended by it. It can be especially hard when it's a
change in tone, and people aren't sure how you mean it.
As for myself - I have no trouble when people have opinions that
differ from mine, though I might feel it's a good idea to cut
them off, if continued discussion might become acrimonious.
I only remember really having a problem with one of your posts,
when I was talking about some of the things we were doing in
class. It came across to me that you were running down many of
the things I was doing. I don't know how they came across to
other people, but you told me you were just talking about the
problems you'd had as a kid. That's the kind of
misunderstanding that happens from time to time. I remember
once when I was kidding with Kat about some changes he'd
suggested in one of my stories, but he later told me he thought
I was genuinely upset with him. I lost one internet friend,
because I used a word (ridiculous) that was a trigger to him. I
didn't even say he was ridiculous or anything. He later
apologized, but he'd gone off on me in such a dramatic, over the
top way that I never felt comfortable talking to him again,
though we did try to renew our correspondence after a few
       months.
So, I'm glad you enjoy the forum. I hope everyone feels free to
post here. If you have problems with how people take your
posts, maybe first look at if it's just one person (and the same
person over and again) or if maybe you need to change something
about your writing style to be more clear or to avoid certain
issues. While I do think there are certain topics we should or
have to avoid, I hope no one feels like they can't post here.

Regarding the holiday/seasonal picture parades, I may not cast a
vote on that subject. It's easy to say "sure, keep doing it"
when it isn't any work for me, but I have to ask whether it is
really worth the work that goes into it.
Any of the boy pictures are useful to the extent that they offer
more chances for BOTD or MMSA story inspiration, but I doubt
that I would regularly post comments to a parade just to
identify which boys are my favorites. I do look at the parades
but in most cases I don't really have anything to say about
       them.
So I can go with whatever happens. If the holiday/seasonal
parades keep coming then I will keep looking at them. If they
stop, well, the non-seasonal parades specifically for use in
       BOTDs will still be there.

I agree with Adric. I just do not feel like I have much to say
about the parades, so if it's too much work I would not mind if
they are discontinued. The BOTD on the other hand is often fun
       for me.
I mean, they are nice, I'm not against them or anything, but if
it's a matter of allocating scarce resources there are other
forum features that are more useful for me.

Thanks for all of the responses.
Frankly, these are not that hard to do. Most of them require
about 15 minutes on my part.
My concern was not the amount of time that I was spending nor
about if people were looking and not commenting.
I simply did not want to do something that people found not
       useful.
I had no way to interpret the lack of response and so I wanted
to make sure it wasn't due to the parades falling out of favor.
Lurkers on the parades are always welcome but a comment or two
does let me know that people are still interested.
