       3-3-2018: Crashed
By: Jack Date: March 3, 2018, 7:54 am

Van and Liam's party went mostly very well, and they had a great
time overall. However, I'm really tired, and we still have a
big day, and I find I need to lay down a while longer. Will
catch up on the details when I have time.

For a second, I thought that you might have gotten into another
accident because this post was right beside "Wrecked." Glad that
my initial thought was wrong, but hope you get lots of rest!
Yay for the party going well!

       Oops!
Nope, I used this title, because of a rumor I mentioned in chat
yesterday. It turns out that Van and the Phantoms of the
Academy have groupies and the party was crashed. We were
supposed to have about 40 people total, maybe a bit above 50,
because Van and Eliza mentioned it to some people in their dance
class and some of his friends in band. We ended up having more
       than 100.
       Van loved it.
He and the Phantoms only played 3 sets, but each was a good
length - 30 to 40 minutes, I think. They had a great time. He
loved the extra audience members, and he spent most of the
evening just visiting and meeting people.
One problem we had is that we weren't set up for that many
people. What I ended up doing was using some cheap bracelets
the family center has. Green was for invited guests, and they
had access to the buffet room. People in the purple bands could
dance and do karaoke, but they had to buy snacks and drinks.
And that meant getting a couple of the Family Center employees
to come in with little notice, but they were happy for the
hours. I did send Ethan and Parker to the store, and they came
back with more cake and ice cream, so at least everyone got to
share 'birthday' cake and use the Sundae bar.
That's really all it was. We had to close down at midnight,
because of the town's curfew ordnance. We could have stayed
open longer, but we would have had to have at least a couple of
police/security there, especially with the unexpected guests.
Of course, because BCA is mostly evangelic, there was a bit of
trouble with some of the guests about dancing, but I just tune
that noise out. It probably didn't help that several of my boys
danced with other boys as well as with girls. But after they
did, they weren't the only same gender couples out there, so all
is well, and all is well, and all in the world is well.
Oh, Mickey did make it, and it was a complete surprise to Van.
Van might not remember Mickey being his only brother, but he
does know Mick is special, and that he's special to Mick, and he
       appreciates it.
It really was a good night, even if I was worn out.
While Liam was there last night, and he was able to invite some
of his friends, it was really about Van. Today was about Liam
and his friends, though he invited Van and some of Van's best
friends. They did play a round of miniature golf, but most of
their money went on go karts and lazer tag, and they had a great
       time.
And on the way home, we stopped and picked up the new puppies!

They shouldn't be required to dance if they don't want to.
Also, if I am not mistaken, aversion to dance is not an
evangelic thing. It is the position of one particular
       protestant demonination.

Nor should it hurt. The world has changed. If someone doesn't
want to see that they should look in a different direction.

I'm just reporting, Adric - not supporting. On the other hand,
I know of at least two denominations that are (technically, at
least) against dancing - Baptists (at least the southern ones)
       and Church of Christ.

       ::)
To be against dancing... As Eric Liddle said in Chariots of
Fire, “Do you want the boy to grow up thinking God's a
       spoilsport?”.

Yes, that's pretty much what some people do seem to want.

I am a recovering Southern Baptist and so it is true that
dancing is frowned upon. But, I do like this little joke:
Q - Why are Baptists opposed to pre-marital sex?
A - Because it might lead to dancing.
