2/23/2018 - Sicko

I let Curtis stay home today. Connor was a little ticked at me,
but Curtis did have a very runny nose yesterday, and he was
horribly stopped up this morning. Plus he was coughing a fair
bit yesterday evening, and he said his throat was sore today.
We managed to get his nose clear, then used some saline nose
drops. I got him to drink some hot tea with lemon and honey
(which he enjoyed). After that, he felt good enough to eat a
sandwich - scrambled egg with cheese and mustard on white bread,
but at least it was something.
I took him in my room and gave him a short stay in the steam
room, which I think helped his stuffiness a lot. We put a bit
of Vick's under his nose, dried him off, and got him in his
footy pajamas, then I tucked him in. Granny Rose was happy to
stay with him while I taught. She said he slept most of the
morning, so she just caught up on some TV shows on her tablet
while sitting with him.
He seems to feel much better this afternoon, though he's still
coughing a bit. He's had more hot tea, and I also gave him a
spoonful of honey - I think we might have an addict on our hands
now. His throat doesn't hurt much, but I think I'm still going
to give him something soft and bland for dinner - maybe toast
with honey would be a good choice?

It is good he is feeling better but I hope the pestilence hasn't
spread to others.

It happens sometimes - we've had some periods where most of the
kids were down with something, but we've had some times when
just one or two people caught it.

Natural unpasteurized local honey is very good for you. I get
it from a friend that has his own bees for my sister who has
emphysema.
Vicks works wonders for opening breathing. I put it in a
handkerchief and breath it. When I was a kid, mom smeared it
all over our chests to open up our breathing.
I have one brother that is susceptible to pneumonia so when he
had a bout with it, mom would put him under a vaporizing tent of
sheets and an electric skillet with Vicks in it to open up his
clogged up breathing.

When you are being fussed over and taken care of, having a cold
is less miserable for a kid.

Actually, I just give honey in a spoon or drink to help with the
sore throat.
Curtis is sleeping now, but it sounds like he's breathing much
easier, so hopefully it's nothing too serious.
