28 Jan 2018 - A Chat With Bryce
By: Jack Date: January 28, 2018, 6:35 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
(I dig my phone out of my pocket, as Bryce's ringtone starts to
play)
"Hey, Buddy."
"Hey, Dad. Y'all watching the Rumble."
"Of course. You got your dorm room full?"
"Nah. Bobby and Steve are letting us watch at their place. Big
screen TV you know."
"Good choice."
"Still waiting on the pizza."
"That's frustrating. How's Jeremy?"
"He should be home by now. We had a steak brunch for him today,
after Colt's friends went home."
"Birthday party go good?"
"Great."
"Oh, cool! They're starting with the WWE Championship."
"AJ Styles still your fave?"
"Always. He's phenomenal."
Bryce laughed.
"Just wanted to say hey."
"Well, hey, but I am mad at you."
"Why?"
"Because this is the first time in years you haven't been here
for the Royal Rumble. Who gave you permission to grow up?"
More laughter.
"Wasn't aware I had an option, Dad."
"Be that way. Enjoy the show. I'm gonna go hug Curtis."
"Cheater," he said as he hung up.

The evenings are usually family time, but I had to make an
exception.
The Men's Royal Rumble just ended. The conclusion might not
have been exactly what we wanted, but we couldn't be more happy
with how it went, and it means the main event at Wrestlemania
will be a potential match of the year.
The match had barely concluded when my phone started playing
Bryce's ring tone again. ;)

Not really a cliffhanger. It was just mostly discussing details
about the match which I very much doubted many of you would any
of you would have interest. I will just say that one of Bryce's
all time favorite wrestlers was heavily involved in this match
and had a great performance, though he ultimately fell short, so
Van was a bit disappointed.

I haven't watched wrestling since "Dick the Bruiser." Hey I was
going to school in Indianapolis at the time and Dick the Bruiser
is a legend in Indy.

Not quite related, but still Bryce, so I thought I'd post it
here.
I received an e-mail from Bryce this morning. He pointed out
that Black Panther starts 16 Feb, and his birthday is 14
February. He thought it might be nice if he (and maybe some of
his brothers) came home that weekend. If they left right after
lunch/last classes on Friday, he could be home about the same
time as the school kids. Keep in mind that many of Bryce's
friends are a bit younger than him, so his two best friends
still go to school here, and a couple of his other friends are
still around.
He's hoping that we might have time to do steak before the movie
(we don't, but we can do it Saturday), and he suggested that
maybe we could reserve the big theory with the good projector
and sound system this time (I have a call in to the theater).
What the heck, it'll be fun, and great to see my baby.

It's Disney/Marvel. Some have been much better than others, but
we've liked them all.

This is off-topic, but I'm just wondering. You've had a lot of
"babies"/youngest children over the years, right? How many do
you consider your "babies," and who are they exactly? :)
(I want to say Steve, Bobby, Barry, Bryce, Van, Kenny, and
Curtis, but I'm not sure.)
