Are Any Members Knowledgable About The Net/Online Stuff?
By: Jack Date: January 26, 2018, 4:05 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
I am still trying to find a forum we can host on my own site, to
free us from worries about losing everything again. The problem
is, I just don't know that much. The software I have access to
didn't work properly the last time I checked, due to a lag
between versions and hosting. I need to make time to check
       again soon.
In the meantime, I just came across this.
  HTML http://flarum.org/features/
Could someone who knows what they're about take a look at it,
see if they think it will suit our needs, and how hard it would
actually be to get things set up and rolling?
Thanks to anyone who's able to help.

Well, I missed this post somehow. Nevertheless, the first and
most important part is a bulletproof web hosting. That means a
private server or a shared server at a company that is not
uncomfortable with our topic. The problem is to find that and
       stay anonymous. That's a part I can't help with.
The board software itself looks promising. It's still beta,
though. Createaforum is proprietary software itself and all you
get is a sql dump for a $50 fee. So importing that date isn't
going to be easy, probably had to be done manually. How much
data from the old board do you have and and on what board type
       did you work so far?

We have a host - my own site is hosted by the same company that
       also hosts MMSA.
We know that rebuilding what we can of what existed before will
probably have to be done manually - we'll live with that.
As I said, the real problem is finding software for the forum
that I can use, but that which also meets our needs.

Well, it appears to be quite fast. It's a different concept than
"classical" boards like this one. It works with tags instead of
sections. But I think once you get used to it might be easier to
navigate through the posts. At freeflarum.com you can setup a
test board, you only need a mail address.
