I finally remembered something I've been meaning to share for a
while.
You may remember that Joel Lane is going to be living with us
soon, so he can finish his high school career here. He'll be
staying in the room Parker and Ethan share. Ethan will be in
college, so it won't be a big deal.
Well, that's not happening anymore.
I've always considered the garage apartment to be a one person
place, where an older kid can live at home while having more
privacy and being able to entertain. However, Jeremy and Ethan
have looked at it and decided it's just fine for two.
There was some discussion, but they're taking the dining room
table and the double bed out. They're going to put in another
easy chair, and a pair of twin beds, along with another desk.
We found captain's beds with bookcase headboards (I have to quit
giving those away when we finish using one for a while... We
ALWAYS need more) that fit in with the decoration, while giving
the boys plenty of storage space.
Jeremy says it's no big deal, since he and Ethan lived together
from the time they were 5 or 6 until they were 12, and he's
actually missed having a room mate. Still, Ethan will only be
home at Christmas, summer vacation, and the occasional short
visit, so it should work out okay, and it will certainly be
easier on Parker and Joel.

In the Family Meeting thread I started earlier today, I
mentioned that Jeremy has been being a bit sloppy and hasn't
finished unpacking, so I gave him a deadline on a few of his
chores. Zyngaru and I discussed it there, but I thought we
should share that post here as well.

I did get on to Jeremy and Ethan a bit - mostly Jeremy. Since
he hasn't lived here in so long, he and I agreed on certain
expectations when he moved in. I've cut him some slack because
there has been a lot going on, and then he and Ethan decided to
room together, and they've been moving furniture and stuff. The
fact is that he's still not unpacked, so I made an ultimate - he
needs to get all the boxes and luggage emptied and cleared out,
or he'll get paddled. His reaction was basically a 'yes, sir'
and a nod. I wonder if he's been waiting to see if I'd actually
jerk him up short if he pushed it.
I am thinking you are probably right. He is checking to see
where he fits in now that he moved back in. Don't be surprised
if this isn't the only time he checks. He will probably stretch
something to the limit of getting spanked, just to see if you
will do it.
Jeremy is 18 now, so it would take a lot of pushing for him to
reach this point, especially since the boy in the garage
apartment typically does have more freedom. It hasn't been that
long since I did paddle Jeremy (see: Paying Your Debt
HTML https://jackshouse.createaforum.com/botd/botd-20171229-paying-your-debt/<br
/>and
HTML https://jackshouse.createaforum.com/botd/botd-20171229-paying-your-debt/msg2647/#msg2647<br
/>for the details). While you could be right - maybe simply
because he wants to be sure where the limits are, and needs to
push past them to be sure - I hope, if not actually believe,
just letting him know I'm paying attention will be enough.

Jeremy did not get everything I'd told him to do over the
weekend finished. On the other hand, he and Ethan got their
furniture re-arranged like they want, and he did obviously do
some work, so I let it go.
Instead, yesterday morning, I went out there and had him strip
down to his underwear. We went through all his clothes,
finished unpacking, and got rid of over half of it as either not
fitting well or not something he wears anymore. A lot of it
doesn't even need replacing. I'll go back out there - probably
this weekend - and we'll make a list of what he actually needs.
I'll do him like I do most of the older kids - make a budget so
he can get everything he needs, including a couple of nice
things, or he can do without so much, and get name brand stuff.
I've been doing that for probably 15 years now, and it seems to
really help the boys learn how to budget and make decisions.
Jeremy does want me to go shopping with him, so I'll have to
make time for that, but I'm just going to consult - he'll have
to still make the decisions.
Jeremy's so much bigger than Ethan and Parker that they couldn't
get any of his hand-me-downs. The twins (who are 2 years older
than he is) got some, and so did Liam and Zeke. Kaden got a
couple of shits and some shorts. After that, two of Jeremy's
closest friends here - Jerry Costas and Cole Cavanaugh - were
here, and they're both only a little smaller than he is, so I
got to have those two nice looking, well built teens strip down
and try on some clothes. It was a nice evening.
Oh, we do have some left - Asher Loomis is another close friend
of Jeremy's, so I'll give him a shot at them, though he's not as
tall as Jerry and Cole. After that, they'll probably go in the
hand-me-down closet for a while.
