Birdie has died...
By: stevieweeks Date: January 6, 2025, 3:07 pm

Some of you will know that I inherited my mother's budgie when
she died... at the time I wasn't terribly thrilled about this
but I became Birdie's owner by default since neither of my
sisters wanted him...
I soon became fond of birdie and used to his cheerful singing
whenever I came into the room. I am a little sad at the thought
that I won't be hearing it anymore.
Birdie won't be replaced since I have developed some trepidation
about the ethics of keeping birds in cages, and think that I
will stick with dogs, creatures that are truly domesticated.

Some people don't realize how much animals can become part of
the family. I'm sorry for your loss.

So sorry to hear of Birdie's passing. Budgies are also truly
domesticated, and many of them are happy living inside and
outside their cages. That was the case when I had parrots,
which I had to rehome due to my becoming very allergic to them.

I inherited Birdie in November 2017, and Mom had him for at
least a year before that so he was over eight years old
depending upon how old he was before we got him... I believe
that is about the normal lifespan for a budgie in captivity...
Thanks for all the good wishes...
