A Material Question

(Note: I will probably also post this to MMSA Forum, so don't
feel you have to answer in both places, and don't think you're
seeing double).
Recently I noticed a 'silicon spatula'. It's hardly the first
time I've seen one, but this one just seemed to be perfect for
spanking (and I'd just seen a cute boy - 12ish - who would
definitely look cute over someone's knee, so I was probably
thinking that way).
What that really made me think about was how many materials
there are that provide spanking implements. I'm not really
thinking about wood, since there are plenty of articles on that
topic. What I'm considering is more rubber, versus plastic,
versus silicon, versus wood, versus whatever else might be an
option.
To keep this simple, let's keep this discussion just to paddles
or paddle like implements (kitchen spoons or spatulas - maybe
brushes as well, but those tend to be much thicker, so probably
a different conversation).
If anyone wants to share their personal experiences, it's always
appreciated.

Our Mom favored a wooden spoon which was applied to a boy,
teenage or young man's naked butt. I wonder how a silicon spoon
would have elicited a howl or two once applied to a boy's naked
rear end.

Can't vouch for an actual boy, teenager, or young man, but as an
"adult boy", it's all thud with little sting and extremely
unpleasant. In the appropriate audience, howls would be a
given.

I assume Hot Wheels tracks are not part of what you are looking
for? Those orange strips of plastic make for a mighty sting. I
had them used on me as a kid- usually an impromptu whacking to
the backs of my legs.

Lexan paddles are a thing.
There are also these things:

They are called spoodles. I used to have some but in a heavy
silicon material - for kitchen use, honestly. However, I can
see great potential for "other uses" with them.

I never had them used on me, but I know a few boys back in the
day that had these used of them.
A length of rope. And a length of old rubber water hose. The
rope left huge nasty looking welts and the rubber water hose
bruised their butts to dark purple.
