A Live BOTD

I'll let the story speak for itself. The question seems pretty
obvious.

Family court for assault. That's the legal side of it. I see
weekly drug testing, community service, mandatory weekly
counselling with a shrink, fines, medical costs, public apology
as a minimum.
The school side of it is that he is banned from school sports.
The time frame can be negotiated, but a minimum for the rest of
the season. Maximum could be the rest of his school years.
Unsportsmanlike conduct was taken very seriously when I went to
school, because sports is supposed to mold a boy into a
responsible man.
More than likely this stems from the father. I suspect the
boy's dad will give his son a pat on the back and give him a
beer for taking care of the punk the old-fashioned way. Dad
will also be yelling the loudest if the school takes any
punitive action against his son for just being, "Boys will be
Boys."
This type of thing happens way too often. Just this time it's
on video.

I think this is horrible. He should have had his singlet removed
and put over a parental lap and had his butt tanned. A year
suspension is pretty light. I do suspect that he may get an
assault charge and a juvie record not not much else. It's two
teenagers and a punch but I'd love to see few hundred hours of
community service as well

There is already a court case. A year ban when one is in junior
high school might as well be a lifetime. The trifecta would be
the mother of all spankings at home from his dad. Whether or
not that happens, we're unlikely to ever know.
It's terrible sportsmanship, and symptomatic of what we all know
is a very sick society. On the other hand, he's 14. Beyond the
legal case and a school ban on playing sports, and assuming
he'll face some parental retribution at home, I think it's
plenty. Everything "bad" a kid (or an adult) does needn't
result in 20 years in prison or being drawn and quartered.

I agree. This isn't the crime of the century. Although I
suspect any chance of him wrestling in High School are over and
possibly even in college. The consequences do need to be severe
enough that he chooses not to repeat this action in the future.

Emlyn will cane him ;)
I find his actions horrendous but then I'm a mom of athletes, my
boys know that any kind of behavior like that would earn them a
darn good spanking and we'd yank them off the team if the
school/coach didn't.
This likely stems from an anger management issue, or the kid is
being bullied by his own father, as many do because they think
their kid should be a star athlete just like them. I hope he
learns something from this, but it's doubtful.

Yeah, horrendous and unsportsmanlike.
The kid needs professional intervention and a condition of
returning from his suspension should require it.
I know we are about spanking here but I don't think a spanking
will help this boy. I am also not a fan of dragging him through
the courts but I think that is the only way he is going to get
mandated counseling and anger management.
Punishment? Of course the suspension but some community service
seems appropriate - 40 hours.

I think the real problem here is that
1) This kid has some real problems going on in his life (which
could include)
2) He has some real anger management issues; or
3) His parents taught him to react this way.
So, while a spanking might be tempting on top of other things, I
doubt it's really appropriate in this case.
