       Quiet Night
By: Jack Date: December 24, 2017, 3:52 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Because of various schedules, this doesn't always work out, but
it's something we try to do every year.
Really, this night is for just the kids who are living here,
though I'm flexible on that. Daniel came (and was the oldest
boy). I invited my five boys who've never lived here (well,
Mike lives here, but also KC, Bruce, Chandler, and Billy. I
also invited the Cavanaugh boys, since they'd been out of town,
visiting Dubs family and missed the Tribal party.
After the past three days, we had a ton of leftovers,so we tried
to get rid of those, so we'll have room for more tonight.
I'd sent all the visitors home at 4:30 pm or so (well, I started
at 4, and by 4:30, I'd grabbed a spoon and started getting
serious). When everyone was gone, I told my boys to do chores,
then spend a little time in their room - nap, read, play
something, or get a bath, but do something kind of quiet.
At 6pm, we started dinner, and everyone got cleaned up. While I
didn't require pajamas, most of us still ended up in some
       version of them.
I had wanted to invite a few other boys, but it reaches a point
where you just have to stop. We'll have another quiet night,
but with a slightly larger invitation list, before New Year.
As it was, we ate, watched Charlie Brown Christmas and Ghosts of
Christmas Eve (Trans Siberian Orchestra). Then switched to
games (boards, cards, and - if you wanted to go to the kitchen
or dining room - dominoes. We had the fireplace going.
Interesting thing I noticed about my boys - almost all of us are
touchy-feely. I think that's a good thing. Doctors say that
not feeding your skin hunger can be harmful to your mental
health, and I'm already dealing with boys who've been in bad
situations. I think the idea that they like to cuddle, yet not
necessarily find it sexual is great. It was kind of a surprise
to Kaden (and moreso when he noticed Noah and Blake kiss), but
he didn't seem to mind at all when Bryce, came over, sat by him,
and put an arm across his shoulder.
When Kenny and Colt had to go to bed, we started cleaning up,
turning off electric lights, and lit a few candles. I changed
over to a softer Christmas playlist, and we had time to sit and
talk with the older boys for a while. Fortunately, most of them
don't mind cuddling with Dad from time to time, so he doesn't
have to rely on having someone over his lap to sate his own
       skin-hunger ;)

       Agree with that.
I'm glad to read that this event turned out well. Quiet is a
       good thing sometimes.

Glad you your quiet time worked out but once you grabbed the
spoon I bet they took you seriously... lol
Sounds like a very nice and relaxing evening

I guess it's really not fair to say 'quiet', but after three
days of big parties and friends hanging out almost constantly
since Tuesday afternoon, an evening where we all stay home,
spend time together, and relax - well, even if it's not silent,
it's still quiet, if you know what I mean. And sometimes,
that's the best thing of all.
I found this out this morning. When I made that announcement,
Denny grabbed his backpack and shoes and headed towards the
       door.
As a reminder, Denny is 20 and a college football player. Not
at a big school, but still!
Noah spoke up, "You don't think he'd still spank you, do you?"
"If you were in my position, would you test it?"
"Sure - as long as he's just carrying the spoon. Now if he had
the bath brush in his hand, it might be another story."

       That is just funny there.

Now that is a beautiful image.
