Nicotine tests

Information required for a story.
I have not been able to establish by Googling the extent to
which nicotine tests are readily available and what the position
is historically.
If you were a headmaster in, say, (a) 1953 and (a) 1967 would it
have been possible to procure a test? Assuming not readily
available, would any sufficiently well-equipped laboratory have
been able to do a test? If so, what sort of sample would they
have needed - blood, urine, saliva, hair? Could there be a
positive result if a boy had spent enough time in a tobacco
smoke filled environment but had not been smoking?

As answered elsewhere. This is easy. Cane them all and let God
sort them out. ;D

A story involving nicotine tests has been put on the back burner
and is likely to fall down the back of the cooker. I moved on to
sniffer dogs as a way of boys being found out smoking without
knowing how. They are are less problematic. The story has been
submitted. It is short as it is told by a beagle.

I loved the story. So well done from the dog's POV. I'll put it
out after your latest has had some time to move down the list a
tad.

As you may know, one of my many post-retirement hobbies is
competition dog training. In it, we do scent work. Suffice to
say, I loved this story.
