Does anyone know if (publishing) rules are set down anywhere for
the publishing industry (books rather than the internet),
defining what cannot be written about physical punishments
experienced as a young person... in a biographical or
semi-biographical context, for example... writing about your own
experiences (parental spankings), as well as sibling punishments
witnessed. The topic is a huge minefield nowadays in a writing
context, and yet for a large proportion of the western world,
physical punishment (spankings, smackings, beltings, canings)
had been a living experience when young. Any ideas? Are there
rules about what 'age' can be mentioned in the writing?

I don't know about any rules set in print. We do have the First
Amendment which pretty much states that you can say or write
just about anything that is personal to yourself. The caution
there is mentioning other people, because you could accidently
set yourself up for slander or liable charges. Make sure you
can prove any accusations you make about other people.
I think we have a few lawyers on this site that can correct me
if I am mistaken and give you further advise on how to keep
       yourself out of hot water.
Back in 1998, I got my very first computer. It was a Gateway
windows 98 and I loved it because it gave me access to a whole
new world to explore. Zynder, my muse, revealed himself to me
for the first time that year also. I was at a long layover
while my tour bus was being upgraded, so I had a lot of free
time at the hotel, with nothing to do. I started writing and
writing and writing until I had 28 pages written on both sides
of my life story and the abuse I lived through as a boy by my
father. I considered posting it to an online site, but like
you, I asked members of the site about doing so. They never
read what I wrote, but just how I described what I had written,
they advised it best that I keep it to myself. I actually ended
up destroying it without posting it, and then later wrote it
again two more times. I destroyed those copies also. It was
good therapy for me in writing it, but not so much something
that should be shared with the world as explicitly as I wrote
it. In stories I write there are bits and pieces of my boyhood
in them, but not the full story anywhere. Ultimately it is up
to each individual, how much of themselves they wish to make
       public.
One more thought: Spanking is a very controversial topic right
now. Putting out a book about or just having spanking in it,
could trigger haters to come after you. If you show spanking as
a plus, then the anti-spankers could come after you. If you
show it as a negative, then the pro spankers could come after
you. We live in an activist time right now. These activists
are of one mind. The time of open-mindedness is long gone.
They call it a cancel society, but in truth it is a
closed-minded society. People of today, get one idea or
position in their head and won't even listen to anyone with a
different idea or position. They believe their position is
absolute. If you wish to get a small sampling of just how bad
it can get watch a couple "The View" shows and you will see how
cruel people can be with anyone of a differing viewpoint. They
will even turn on their own, as a few of them have discovered
when they said something that differed with the others.

Thanks for that advice... What you say about writing as therapy,
I agree with... I am determined not to destroy it though!!!

Movies and books do have spanking in them. AT least in the US,
it's still something that happens even today, and it's
acknowledged to have been much more prevalent even just a few
       years ago.
The thing is, most spanking (of children) today is shown as
abusive. If you're going to show it in a positive light, you'll
get more resistance/backlash. However, if you're actually
trying to publish something, I think that's more an issue for
       your publisher to consider.
I will point out that there was a book called Kingsland.
Originally, there was a spanking in it, where the spanker (a
step-father) actually seemed to enjoy it. Later, the author
revised and expanded the story into a trilogy and completely
       removed the spanking.
       In other words, I don't think there's a real issue, but that's
limited to the US. You might have to research the laws for your
       country separately.
