       Cousin's Night
By: Jack Date: December 22, 2017, 4:27 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
We had a great evening last night. We made crock pot luck, and
the other parents brought extra, so we could try to get some
decent food in the kids during all ths partying and junk food.
Funny thing - normally some of the kids are here during the day,
then more are dropped off between six and seven. Last night, it
seemed like everyone showed up right at 6pm. Of course, it was
a beautiful day yesterday (high in the upper 70sF/25C), so they
were happy to get out, and most of the parents did do some last
       minute errands.
Because everyone was here, I took the opportunity to introduce
Kaden around. I made it clear that Kaden was not adoptable, but
he was going to be here for a while. He was getting hugged and
kissed, and his hand shook, and apparently more attention than
he was prepared to take, so I had to break him free.
We did all the usual stuff - games by ages, the kids caught up
on visiting, then they did their gift exchange. After that, we
lit the fire and candles, and turned out all the electronic
lights and talked about Yule and the old legends and told a few
       stories.
After that, the kids went back to gaming. Most of them started
fading away. The boys tightened up a bit, and let the young
ladies have the guest room. Mike slept with me (little brat's a
       cover thief!).
I think Kenny's planning on a big breakfast this morning, but
the Tribal Parties tonight. It's a good thing we have heaters
for the tents. After yesterdays' high in the 70s, it's
currently 55F, and that's the high for the day. It's supposed
to be down to 40F (about 5C) by 5pm this afternoon and below
       freezing overnight.

I am so happy to hear that Kaden was accepted and welcomed with
great affection. At Kaden's age, he was probably embarrassed to
be fawned over like that, but it would have been a good
embarrassment. The kind that makes you feel really good inside,
knowing that you are accepted. HEART HEART HEART
       We need a "HEART" Emoticon.

I'm sure you're right - finding yourself the center of attention
       can be hard.
On the other hand, Kaden's hardly the first person to join this
family in a non-traditional way, and most of my family either
accepted them from the start, or quicklly learned to.
And remember, Matt and Jason and I are only half brothers, and
Ben and Mike are full brothers to each other, but step-brothers
to us, yet we all treat each other like blood family. It
shocked Marcia when she found out we weren't, because it never
occurred to Marcus to mention it.
