My First Novel
By: Jack Date: June 10, 2021, 4:18 am
---------------------------------------------------------
This is off topic, but I'm really proud of it and had to
announce it. I have just finished writing my first actual
novel, and will soon be sending it off in search of an agent.
It is 100,000 words, which is a bit long for a YA novel, but
we'll see.
I describe the novel as such:
Sieger Carlsen is an American-Norwegian dual citizen, who has
lived his entire life in Europe, mostly in Oslo, Norway, where
he attends a top school, is popular, and has a wonderful
boyfriend. When his parents die, he's forced to live with his
only relatives in Texas. All Sieger wants to do is keep his
head down and avoid trouble, until he can turn 18, graduate high
school, and move back home. Fate has other ideas.
No, this is not a spanking story (though isn't that a great idea
for one?).
There are actually a lot of agents looking for books with LGBT+
protagonists these days, so maybe I'll get lucky. After all, I
do have a lot of writing experience behind me, and a lot of help
from a lot of people giving me strong feedback and helping me
polish my skills.
I should definitely say thank you to Brit, who helped me polish
the original idea, gave me feedback when I needed to work out
ideas, and has just been supportive. Thanks to Adric for much
the same things, as well as for being an excellent editor.
Finally, thanks to MMSA writer JCW who is Norwegian, and has
read the story and given me excellent advice on the language and
the country, as well as letting me know when I got things wrong.
Thanks for letting me brag. i was just too happy and proud to
keep this in.

Wow! Congratulations. Writing a novel is a great achievement in
itself. I wish you much luck finding an agent. It sounds like an
interesting story. I would be happy to be among your first
customers if it gets published. How old is your main character?
If you do not find a publisher you could always self-publish,
although I understand it's difficult to get noticed among so
many books being self-published.

Congratulations!
In German I would wish you "Much success" rather than "Good
luck" for getting it published, but I don't really know the
equivalent in English. Whatever, just know I'm wishing you well
for your book!

The novel takes place over a four month period, 18 Oct to 18
Feb, and Sieger is 16 for that entire time.
And yes, self-publishing is always a possibility, but I will try
the traditional route first.

Congratulations on your achievement, Jack.
Writing a novel of that length is definitely time consuming and
I hope the effort is rewarded.
A few years back I did write a story that ended up being just
over 160,000 words spread across 34 chapters. It was written and
posted online on an almost weekly basis. Like yours it isn't
spanky, but gay teen. After that I decided to stick to shorter
stories in future!

Congratulations Jack, and wishing you "Much Success" as well.
(I need to remember that - sounds better to me than "Good
Luck".)

I don't know what emoti to use for 'wow', but WOW! I thought
hitting 100k was hard enough.
And much thanks to all of you for your good wishes. I'm writing
querry letters to agents now, and I swear, writing a synopsis is
harder than writing the novel was.
