It's actually kind of funny how my brain disconnects sometimes.
More than a couple of people have commented on how much my
posting has slowed down the last few weeks. I blamed a number
of things from holidays, vacations, and the hot weather and bad
air. There was one thing it never occurred to me to blame.
So, Van's been gone more than four weeks now. He's not allowed
to have a phone or even internet connection for the most part.
Instead, I've been writing him one, two - sometimes even three
page letters, keeping him up on how everyone's doing and what's
going on. He's very busy, but writes me back one or twice a
week, and Eddy's written me as well.
Everything's going good with them. They're having a great time.
There is a LOT of music, but they also have time for physical
activity, and to relax and make new friends. I'm sure he'll
have a lot to tell me about when he gets home, but write now, I
think he's too busy doing to tell.

That seems like a very good excuse for not writing as much here.
Glad to know things are going so well for him.

Good that you are writing long letters to Van and that he and
Eddy are having a good time.
How is Peter, Eddy's brother doing?
I hope Fido won't be too angry when he is back and dances for
       him! [emoji195]

Fido is probably too old to bond completely with someone else,
but I think Van will be in for some trouble before he's
       forgiven.

Van seems to have had a great time at camp, but he's glad to be
home. He was very tired. We did his doctor's visit yesterday.
He and I went over his clothing budget, but he and Mickey are
going to go shopping together. He and I did have lunch
yesterday afternoon, after his doctor's appointment.
He's having a bit of a rough time being back so far - largely
because things were so hectic there, he was in a cabin
environment, so hasn't had much privacy, and he was just tired.
He'd done really great, but was rewarded with a number of
concert opportunities. I remember debate camps were often
incredibly busy, and I often ran myself short on sleep so I
could do everything else I needed and wanted to do, and it
sounds like Van was much the same. He's been starting to get
back into his routine, but he's also been sleeping a lot.
One thing he did do was to spend time on the phone yesterday,
catching up with all his friends, but most especially arranging
a few practice sessions for the Phantoms.

Glad to hear Mickey is getting go spend some time with Van! I
remember that when Van was younger, their special relationship
seemed to (understandably) be a bit more important to Mickey
than it was to Van (who is/was also close to other older
brothers like Noah). Has their relationship grown more
significant to Van now, especially now that he's older?

       Not really, Journey.
It's impossible to know for sure, but it seems to me that, while
Van understands and appreciates that he and Mickey are
biological brothers, his earliest contiguous memories start
here, and that's where his emotional bonds come from. It's not
that he doesn't love and appreciate Mickey, it's just that he
feels the same way about all of his brothers.
On the other hand, it's easy to see that Van understands how
important their relationship is to Mickey, and he takes pains to
       let Mickey know he does.

I needed to say that Van got paddled Sunday night.
It wasn't a huge deal - two swats on his boxer briefs. He had
been at practice in the afternoon, and he came home more than 30
minutes late. I actually accept the excuse, but, because of the
troubles I've been having with Liam and Joel especially, I felt
like I had to hold Van to the rules. While he wasn't exactly
happy about it, he was very understanding.
It was a bit funny, because I told him two swats would be
enough, and for him to drop his pants. I specified pants, but
he shoved them and his shorts down to his knees and started to
bend over. I thought about going for it, but I really did want
to let him off a bit easy, since he's been doing so well for so
long. Then again, he was gone for most of the summer.
       [hr]
It's funny, because 8 or 9 years ago, I really thought Van and I
would be rattling around this huge place by ourselves, except
when his brothers were home from college. I'd even wondered
about us moving to a smaller place. Boy did that plan go out
the window. Van was my baby for so long, it's hard to believe
he has brothers nearly a decade younger than him.
Van is getting his Aunt Wendy to make some new vests for the
Phantoms, so they can all have matching outfits with black and
white, and only their masks, vests, and some accents in colors.
They've done variations on that before, but this way they can
have both matching material and design.

I can see two possibilities here for going bare, not both
       equally likely:
       (1) He's using the British interpretation of pants, which in
       American English would mean undies.
       (2) He wanted to impress you with his level of cooperation in
hopes that would soften the licks.
Nice to know they'll be getting new additions to their Phantoms
       outfits.
