Van leaves tomorrow for his camp.
Six weeks.
I'm still not sure how I feel about it.
We shipped most of his stuff up there yesterday - 2 day delivery
- so he won't have to worry about it. Eddy's as well, since the
two of them are traveling together. It was actually nice
spending the time with him, getting everything set. We took the
Jag and did some shopping, though we already had most
everything.
He's been spending time with Zeke every day, first letting Zeke
follow him as he took care of all the animals, and finally
following Zeke and just observing. Zeke is apparently doing a
great job with them, and I'll kind of keep an eye on him about
the timing.
I tucked him into bed last night and sat with him, and we just
talked until he fell asleep. I think he's worried about being
gone so long, but I also think he knows that, once he gets
there, he's going to have a great time. I just want what's best
for him.

Aw hugs jack
But at least it’s only six weeks and not the entire school
year....
Sounds like y’all had a nice one on one time before he leaves
though...
Hugs kal

Dropped Van and Eddy at the airport today.
They're not allowed to have their phones at camp. We discussed
the boys taking them, but they both have a kindle and an MP3
player. Since the two of them are traveling together, I gave
Van one of my old, cheap phones, with a few numbers programed,
in case any trouble arises.
I don't think Fido has figured out Van is gone yet. For all my
jokes about him, and as smart as he really is, I don't think he
really understands much English. He's used to Van being gone
during the day. Having Zeke in Van's room and bringing the
hamsters back downstairs didn't seem to upset him. Personally,
I expect to have an irritated rabbit once the sun goes down,
since Van doesn't sleep away from home often. And we'll see
what happens after that.
Dropping the boys off went well. I'll miss Van, and I worry
that he'll decide he wants to finish school there, but I remind
myself that it's his decision, and that I want what's best for
him. Letting go doesn't get easier though, even with practice.

Van is writing. He doesn't have much to say. He's having a
great time and staying very busy. He is glad that Eddy's there,
and a couple of the kids have had a lot of trouble with being
home sick, but having a friend there's making a big difference.
He's mostly happy that Fido's doing okay, but I think a little
jealous as well.
Other than that, he hasn't said much, except to talk a bit about
his new friends, and what they're doing there. Mostly I think
he's just too busy (and tired at the end of the day) to have a
lot of time to write. He's obviously having a great time
though, which is the important thing.

It is good that he is having a good time. It is also good to
hear he has added new friends.

Glad to hear he's writing. E-Mails I assume. I would hate to
think he is doing it on paper like they did in antiquity.

No, the old way. Believe it or not, students aren't allowed to
carry cell phones on campus during the day, and they don't have
access to the internet.
In a way, I can understand it. They don't want kids taking
inappropriate photos, and they don't want kids getting
distracted, so it makes a certain amount of sense.
Fortunately, I can still type print my letters, so I don't have
to remember how to write legibly.

I assume Van and Eddy have made it home and that you have a
happy bunny.

It's a six week program, David. Van want be home until right
before school starts.
Fido is getting by - he seems mopey at times, but mostly he's
happy with Zeke.
