I saw previews for a new one coming out this summer. "Artemis
Fowl." Looks like something I would be interested in.

I remember trying Artemis Fowl, but I never got into it. I
don't recall disliking it, it just didn't catch my interest
enough, and I never went back to it. I think it came out in the
early 2000s, and I know a lot of the boys read it - I think
everyone from Tommy to Bryce were big into it at one time or
       another.
I have seen previews of the movie, it looks like it could be
interesting, and I'm sure we'll go see it.

I tried Artemis Fowl too and, like you, it didn't grab me and I
gave up soon. I did not find the main character, a boy who is
also a criminal mastermind in a fantasy world with fairies,
likable or interesting, and the same could be said of the plot.
I like YA fantasy, but this was not my thing.

... and more than six years later, Curtis is 14 and in eighth
       grade.
Curtis plays soccer for the Youth Association in the fall, and
plays on the school team in second semester.
Curtis is also a.. Scout BSA now. He's hoping to achieve his
       Star rank before summer starts.
He's also taking speech/drama like many of his brothers did.
Curtis has a good group of friends. For one thing, Ryder,
Ollie, and Paden are all about the same age as him, so his best
       friends are family.

That is good. Usually family make the best friends, especially
       when you are younger.
He sure sounds like he is into so many extra activities, I don't
see how he can get everything done.
But good for him that he has a full life.

What kind of activities do they do at that age? Go trekking?
       Camping?
