1 May 2020 - Re-opening
By: Jack Date: May 1, 2020, 5:01 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Today is the day Texas started easing restrictions on lockdown.
Many businesses are being allowed to re-open. Since this is in
the news, I thought I'd try to address a few things.
First of all, my family has decided to continue the basic
guidelines under which we've been living. All the boys
understand that I have to help care for my mom these days, and
that she's at high risk (actually, since I'm hypertensive, I'm
in a high risk group myself).
Having said that, there's one way in which we're easing things,
that's going to make things a lot easier on the boys - a lot of
the families with which we are friends have also been strictly
following the guidelines, and we're going to begin socializing
with them. For now, we're going to keep things to one family
at a time, to help ease the risk of cross-contamination, and the
boys understand we're going to do some heavy cleaning between
each visit.
We've already had our first guests. My old friend and business
partner, and our barber, David Bartlett, came over today with
his family. Barber shops are among the businesses not yet
allowed to re-open. While our kids played and enjoyed a nice
day, and while we grilled burgers and dawgs for lunch, David
gave all of us haircuts. His kids are 18, 15, and 11 (girl), so
it wasn't a huge party, but it was still nice for us to have
guests, and I think most of the boys are grateful to no longer
have to deal with a mane (or Dad's trims). Since we didn't have
Spring Break plans, we were all a bit overdue for haircuts when
this mess started.
For this first week, we're going to do every other day. Sunday
afternoon, we're having the Tidwells over. The pool should be
ready to go by then, and it's supposed to be in the low 90s,
after a few days in the high 80s, so the kids should be able to
make use of it. While Perry and Evan both have already had
'family' birthday parties (20 and 17), we're going to make it a
big event for them, as well as for my boys who've had
celebrations come and go.
As for the store, we're going to re-open the Old Target location
and the Campus location for curbside pick ups and we'll probably
allow up to six people in each location to browse. I have had
plenty of volunteers to work, so we're going to try it for now
and see how things go.
I think that's about it for now, but I'll let you know if I
think of more.

Are you happy that Texas is about through this now. Just seen
your"beloved" president on tv saying the country wont stand for
this much longer

Except it isn't about through. The number of cases continues
to rise, and we are starting to notice "spikes" from early
openings. At least where I am, there is a small, vocal, stupid
group of people who are intent on "reopening", following the
lead of our "beloved" president (who I hope, now that COVID-19
has made its way into the White House will come down with the
disease along with his family and have COVID do the work the
Senate was too gutless to do). The rest of the country hates
the lock down but understands the reason for it. There have
been countless reports of businesses "reopening", only to have
TWO customers show up to patronize them in an entire weekend.

I pretty much have to agree with Kier.
I just checked, and Georgia has had a couple of spikes, but it
seems like cases aren't increasing there. I'm still waiting to
see how things go here over the next week or two before I start
getting my hopes up.
