Thinking ahead

I am updating my stories and spotted that one finishes as
follows:
"When you are doing something silly you don’t think about the
cane. I’m not sure why really."

When I was doing things that would get me a whipping, I really
never thought about the consequences or getting caught.
Something silly popped up and I wanted to do it, so I did it. I
never went around weighing what I did vs the consequences. I
just didn't think about consequences. The only time I worried
about a whipping is when I had been caught and knew a whipping
was in my immediate future.
I did tons of things I never got caught doing. Jumping trains,
exploring condemned buildings, breaking windows in abandoned
buildings, swiping figs, pomegranates, and apples from neighbors
yards, going out of bounds, driving cars while underage, fishing
and swimming on private property that it was forbidden to
trespass on, streaking all over the place and many, many other
things.

Thinking about a time I got paddled at school for doing
something silly, I think there was no more than 3 or 4 seconds
between the time I got the idea to do it and the time I actually
did it. Not enough time for additional thoughts about possible
consequences if I were caught. As Zyngaru said, those thoughts
didn't occur to me until I was sitting in the principal's office
waiting for a paddling.
