MMSA Conditions
By: Jack Date: February 27, 2020, 11:59 am
---------------------------------------------------------
I received a note from David M. Katz asking me to address this
issue. I have previously been in touch with Johnno, who's been
in touch with Flagellant. Also, my site uses the same host as
MMSA, so I am aware of some behind the scenes information (which
I've shared with Johnno) that is relevant to the current
situation.
The long and short of it is that MMSA is out of order at this
time. There has been a recent software upgrade on the host, and
MMSA will need some recoding to be able to work. People are
aware of this, and we believe someone is working to repair the
problems, but - like everyone else - there are personal lives
involved, so we don't know what type of time frame is being
looked at. As I find out anything more, I'll try to keep
everyone updated.

Thanks for sharing this update Jack. It's not the first time
MMSA has been down in recent months. It is concerning how
sensitive the archive is to host updates, but I'm sure they are
working to make it better.

Thanks Jack. Just received an email today saying something
about having to do a massive update to the system.

Thanks for this post Jack. :)[emoji1]
I sent an email [me to me with b c c ] to about 100 authors and
others for whom I have email addresses with request to all to
distribute the information to anyone they can think of I might
have missed -- not that anyone knows I suppose as I did not
disclose the names and emails who did get the message ::)
Flag has been working all day and all night on this and thus far
has restored the admin/review section just to check what things
look like [though 'do not use' instruction]
I guess he will soon restore the main story section.
Re comment by 'Surfer'. Yes the site has been down very many
times in the past largely on those occasions due to finance
though that has now been sorted with auto payments set up.
The previous most recent shut down a month ago was because of a
Dreamhost upgrade requiring all accounts to use PHP 7.2 [or
newer] version. MMSA has been on an antiquated PHP 5.6 and those
have now been discontinued by the host. The MMSA codes are vast
and Flag has been working on them for weeks; got about 95% done
but time ran out before he completed the task and now is in
testing mode
We will need to be patient and should be right very soon.
Johnno .

Fortunately it doesn't matter at all to Stevie because it's been
made quite clear to him that neither he nor his tuna fish labels
are welcome at MMSA...

Of course Stevie is always welcome at MMSA, as we keep telling
you (just as soon as it is restored :D)
Including your tuna labels -- and nothing wrong with tuna!]

Slight up date.
The reviewer section is partly restored and that is being tested
-- but nothing else as yet [2300 GMT Friday night]
The main Story Archive has now been restored for EXISTING
stories though at present we are still unable to approve new
stories including the ones already submitted.
Still needs all the bugs removed from the db first

Further up date:
The good news is the full archive has now been restored i e all
the 40,000 stories are available for readers.
Authors may submit new stories and reviewers are able to
approve them
Two problems remain:
1. there is a problem with doing up dates/modifications so it
may be wise not to send them until this has been sorted. If any
are sent me make sure a copy is kept Flag knows about it and is
working on it when he can , but after about 36 hours non stop re
coding for PHP 7.2, he needs a very long sleep.
2. authors can access the READER stats – the page with all the
monthly totals and countries, but NOT the STORY stats That has
an error message: HTTP500 internal error. . That is seriously
important and I will phone him (our only means of
communication; he has no emails) but not till a convenient time
for him. It seems the votes and reader numbers are being
counted , just not visible to any of us.
Thanks
Johnno
