Kenneth James 'Kenny' Wells

I never realize how much I don't update this forum like I did
the old one until I go to update something and realize Kenny
didn't have a bio page.
Everyone knows Kenny. He's a singer and a cook (and apparently
an actor), a real personality, and the apple of pretty much
everyone's eyes (except maybe a couple of close age brothers,
who might have perhaps see him as more of a crabapple).
Kenny is also 15.
For those of you who haven't been around for the last 8+ years,
or who just don't remember, Kenny lied to me about his birthday
when he first moved in. The reason is that he hated having a
birthday right after Christmas, because it was always just
lumped in as an afterthought, and he never got the attention his
brothers seemed to get.
We pretty well took care of that. He had his seventh birthday
at Build-a-Bear and the Lego Discovery Zone, with lunch at the
Rainforest Cafe, and he thought he was king of the world. Not
too long after that, he met his longtime best friends -
identical twins Sammy and Owen Loomis - whose birthdays are only
9 days after his, and the three of them have been sharing
parties since.
There was another thing Kenny disliked about his birthday,
though, and today's a great example of that. While I was kind
of resistant to the idea, Kenny really wanted a 'luau party', so
we have leis, grass skirts, we had tiki torches for around the
pool, we were going to grill burgers, and do fruit kebobs and
ice cream for dessert. I even have a friend who agreed to try
making a 'Hawaiian Paradise Cake' for us, and we have two
regular cakes decorated for the occasion (Spongebob and Lilo and
Stitch). It's a boy/girl party! So, of course, while we've had
some beautiful weather this week, today is raining and a chance
of thunderstorms.
Once we saw the forecast, I jumped on things, talked to Kenny
(and this is what I mentioned Craig helping me out with last
night).
Everyone's still going to meet here, and I have a party bus
arriving. It's going to take everyone for some bowling, and
then they're going to the Family Center (which does have an
outside covered area with grills) for dinner, dessert, and the
rest of the party.
It's not quite what he wanted, but I expect he'll still have a
good time. And, if one more thing works out right, and no one
slips, we're even going to turn it into a bit of a surprise
party for him.

Yeah, yesterday evening wasn't a good night for a back patio
type of party. The temperature dropped, it was windy, and there
was thunder with some rain.
We did manage to pull off a good surprise, though. I had talked
to Kenny about back up arrangements here, but I hadn't told him
the alternative plans on which I was working. We were able to
change the timing though, and keep it fairly quiet (one good
benefit of there being no school right now).
I had arranged for Aidan Guthrey to 'need a ride'. Jeremy
'volunteered' to go get him, and asked Kenny if he'd like to
ride along. He thought there would be plenty of time, since he
didn't know about the revised timeline. When they got back, all
the party guests had arrived, so Kenny got a 'surprise', and the
party bus had been waiting not far, and pulled up right after he
got home, to start them on their evening with a ride to the
bowling alley.
To me, it was a bit of a let down, but I guess 15 is just too
old and 'cool' for Build-a-Bear and Lego Discovery Zone anymore.
The kids had a great time anyway.
