New Family (yet again)
By: Jack Date: December 28, 2019, 7:57 am
---------------------------------------------------------
I should have updated this a while back, but it's one of those
things that - every time I had time to sit down and update, I
just didn't think of it. I have mentioned it in chat, so some
of you might already know.
On 18 December, the judge finalized my adoption of three boys.
I told one of them about it last Saturday morning, and we made
official announcements at the Tribal Party (and again at
Christmas Eve) to welcome
Craig Crawford Wells
Chance Franklin Wells
and Gregorio Alfredo Garza
to the family.
Greg is going to continue to use Garza for right now, partially
because it's how he's enrolled, what all his ID shows, and what
he's been using for his entire life. To be honest, Greg reminds
me a lot of PJ in some ways - he's very happy to be part of the
family (and both more affectionate and less withdrawn than PJ
ever was), but he still has a similar need to be independent.
Chance, on the other hand, was happy to have 'the family' last
name, and he's been running around trying to get everything
updated.
Craig is the one I warned ahead of time. The other two boys
knew more firmly it was coming. Craig knew it had been
discussed, but he didn't have to sign the papers. Also, at 13,
he has a bit less control over his emotions and Saturday night
was a very emotional time for everyone.

I am so happy the boys have a forever home now.
18 December must be a National Adoption Day or something.
That's the same day, 2 years ago, that my new nephew's adoption
was finalized. They had a big event at the courthouse with the
signing of papers and photos with the judge, then we had a party
at the house.
For all the boys, it is a big deal, but for Craig at 13, I would
imagine it hit him emotionally more, or at least in a more
visible way. I am happy for him.

No, I think that's 23 November.
In our case, it's just the judge trying to finish up things
before starting what's basically a two week vacation. He really
only deals with emergencies during basically the last two weeks
of the year. He just called me up to see if we could come sign,
because that's when the paperwork came to the top of his stack.
Plus, I think he does prioritize, so the boys can have Christmas
with their forever family.

Oh! Okay!
I was confused for a moment. When you said, No! That's 23
November. I knew I read your post correctly when you said 18
December.
But now I get it. On the calendar, National Adoption Day is the
23 November.
I confuse easily in my old age. :) :) :)

Congratulations to everyone. Lucky boys, and it sounds like
they know it, even if it sometimes comes with a cost of a
temporarily sore bottom.
