I have added a list of terms to describe how the boys joined my
family to the initial post. I will be going back and adding
these in. There won't be much detail, since I have discussed it
all before, and it will be added again when we rebuild the
bios. For now:
B - biological
A - Legally Adopted
AA - Adult Adoption
F - Foster (through system)
U - Unofficial
UP - Unofficially placed with me directly by a parent.
Biological is fairly self-explanatory.
Adopted will usually be combined with something else.
Adult Adoption will also be combined with something else, but
will differentiate between cases like the twins, where they were
6 when I adopted them, and Mikell, where is was about 30 when I
did it. The Adult Adoption isn't a huge deal, but some of the
(young men) wanted the relationship formalized, and it does
protect their families when it comes to my will one day.
Foster - this is how I gained many of the kids.
Unofficial - this is mostly for a couple of the older guys, like
Mike and Greg.
UP - Unofficial/Parent - this is for parents who placed their
boys with me. Some of them ended up staying, some went back
home, but still stayed part of the family.
Oh, I like this a lot! So Tracy/Marcus is more UP, right?
I'm sad that we lost the thread on Adult Adoption on the old
Bransom forum. That was one of my favorite anecdotes, esp. the
part where JD (?) calls you back and asks to be adopted, too, in
spite of the hassle of changing the papers with the military. (I
think I got that right. At least it was something like that.)

For the record, I removed Christian from the list today. While
Christian (and Jake) are good family friends, and while they'll
be spending some holiday time with us, and while Christian has
lived here, he was always a friend, never a family member. Like
Blake, Christian was only here because they needed time and
space to work out their family problems.

This is getting better and better, every time Jack adds more
detail.
Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

Journey pointed out that I'd used 'UF' in a couple of places. I
had really only meant to use it for Zeke, who was brought to me
by the foster system, but he turned 18 before he could be
officially placed. I'm not sure why I'd placed it on Greg as
well, so I altered that.
At this point, I think the list is about where I plan to leave
it, but is there anything anyone else would like to see?

I notice a lot of F/A.
So you Foster to Adopt?
I have a Nephew and Niece that are doing that right now with a
12 year old. They have had him since he was 10. (No Spanking
Allowed in their state for Foster kids). Supposedly the adoption
becomes final in December. It has been a long ugly road for
them to this point. Lots of Bureaucracy. Every time they got
close to finalizing, the people would change positions and they
would have to start over with new people.
It really makes it difficult on their son, because he has no
security. They could remove him at anytime, even though no one
expects that to happen. But he does have security issues
because of the way the system treats him. Everyone involved
will be happy once this gets finalized.

I have a couple of questions,
1.- You mentioned that Mikell changed his name, was that an
Adult adoption?
2.- Tommy and Caleb are your bio nephews, Tommy was adopted
directly, but Caleb was foster first and then adopted?
Thanks for sharing Jack

I did a bit more rearranging to the first post.
Mike Guice has never called me dad, though he's been living with
us during school holidays for years, and he's definitely part of
the family. While there are other boys who haven't lived with
us, there are still several other boys who are really part of
the family. I had thought about giving them a separate post,
but I went back and included them here.
I finally decided there were 5 of them. While KC is a bit of an
anomaly, since he has two parents with whom he still lives while
not at school, he's been close with us (and me) for years now.
Of course, at home, it's just him and his parents, so I'm not
sure if he's so much a part of our family because of the
brotherhood, or just because he's such a geek.
I've already talked about Mike in his own bio.
With the other three boys, who are all in high school, they have
single mothers, and I've become their go-to father-figure over
time. I have no idea why Bruce's mom is still single, but she
seems happy that way (maybe she's like me and just likes her
personal space too much). Chandler's mom is a lesbian, and she
says that Chandler is a result of literally her only hetero
experience. She's actually very happy that I'm willing to let
him be around her so much, and that I treat him like one of my
own. Billy Kadlec is the last of my boys, and the newest. His
father passed away three or four years ago. After a bad first
impression of her, I've come to rather like his mom. I get the
feeling she's not ready to date again, but she knows that Billy
needs some masculine influence and interaction, and she seems to
feel the same way that Chandler's mom does.

Hi Jack,
I didn't see Zack in there?
I assume you're talking about Zack Franklin, who is a close
friend of Cal.
You didn't see Zack in this list, because I don't consider Zack
a son, and I've never really been a father figure to him. Zack
is more like Cason Kirk, or Blake Cavanaugh, or Perry Tidwell
(or even Ennis Strouse) - he's more of a nephew with whom I'm
very close, and who's lived here before. In this case, I've
known Zack pretty much his entire life (since he was months, not
years old), and I've been friends with his father, Brian, since
before Zack was born. The two of them have a good relationship,
but they had problems for a bit, and they needed space to work
them out.

Did you Adopted Steven and Troy as adults or they stay as
unofficial?
I have a question about Emmet. I know he is Marcus, brother in
Law, and has a living mother, but he calls you dad, would you
put him on the list or you consider him more like a grandson?

That's a good question, but one that's going to wait for an
answer. For now, let's just say that we've been trying to
figure that out ourselves.
